Next chance to score: Mobley found him for what should have been a very easy dunk. Kat rotated to Mobley, Mobley dropped it to Allen under the rim. Dunk.

Except Allen laid up the softest shit ever. Barely jumped two inches off the ground, and somehow KAT, a guy not known for helping and recovering, let alone helping, rocering, and blocking shots, blocked his shot. Because he went up with zero force at all.

This was when the Cavs were leading the game in the first few minutes.


At some point Allen has to be the one to get Allen involved.

He didn't want it last night. He didn't want the ball. And even in games when he doesn't get the ball, he should still be expected to bring energy. And he just doesn't.

That was a bad series for Alpen after a very good one against Deteoit.

You are describing peak Dwight Howard with his mid-20s veins full of roids and a colon full of tranny cum. That guy was making the maximum salary slot for a player at his experience level, roughly the same as LeBron finishing up his second contract.

Allen is 91st in the NBA in salary this year, granted he sees a pay increase next season. Thats role player money, and frankly the front office needed a better plan for the big man rotation after discovering LJN, Wade and DeAndre Hunter wasn't going to cut it. Harden, Mobley and Donny are the guys making max money, and even they looked exhausted by the end. Bryant was good enough to hide the glaring depth issues in the regular season but he couldn't stay on the floor in the playoffs. That's either on roster construction or unrealistic expectations.

Often is was Harden. Mitchell did a lot of chucking, had a lot of turnovers, and was bad defensively. He struggled to get his teammates involved. Those Mitchell/Mobley units were friggin awful and it's not like we rolled with a 13 man rotation.

He's absolutely worth his salary.

But I'm not seeing a guy who warrants all of this consternation about "we need to play through the bigs!"

Other than a stretch in February, he's not showing enough offensively that allows for that to be a consistent thing in the playoffs. Lobs and dunks are a lot harder to come by, so unless he has more in his bag that he can bring every night, then "playing through him" isn't much of an option. And quite frankly, a lot of nights I don't even see a guy who WANTS the team to play through him.

I get your point and this is an Allen thread, but, to be fair, Mitchell was pretty bad most games. If James was a traffic cone, Donovan was a funnel to the rim and this year his offense didn't make up for it. Which player was better between Allen and Mobley in this series and this season? Toss up to me with a lean toward Allen. Which will be better in the years to come? Should be Mobley.

I honestly meant to refer to the entire playoff run - my bad. Mobley was more impactful vs the Knicks. But I also think that Allen's overall impact gets hidden a little by the major stats. You don't get a counting stat for being in the right position, or setting a hard screen, or blocking out your man so someone else on your team gets the board. Allen does a lot of that kind of stuff which is why he often looks better on on/off stats than on traditional box scores.

Agreed. Too many times he'll take the ball at the top of the key for example and just stand there looking to hand it off. He has the size and touch to shoot it over people. I think that's an easy way for him to get more involved on the offensive end.
