Jaylon Tyson: Rising Star

I hope to see a lot of Tyson, Mitchell and Mobley together...and fill in around them. That is a lot of playmaking ability even after sitting Harden and Allen. Should be formidable.

I'd like to see Tyson be the lighting rod off the bench when he plays with the starters but also spark the bench play when it's more bench than starters on the floor

Tyson had a very good second year. He called out the veterans early in the season and then kicked ass on the floor. He complexly outplayed LeBron to the point where James was visibly frustrated. His three point shot was much improved over his rookie season.

This season there is a ton of opportunity with a thin bench. He should be targeting 6MOY. Not saying he’ll get it but that’s what he should be striving for.

Tyson’s rookie contract expires in 2028. At that point we’ll have:

- three more years of Mitchell at 65.8, 70.7 and 75.5 (player option)
- two more years of Mobley at 57.5 and 61.2
- one more year of Harden, Allen, Watson and Merrill at 34.7 (PO), 32.5, 22.5 and 10.5, respectively.

Even if we kept everybody Dan could re-sign Tyson and pay more tax for a year if it made sense to keep everyone together.

It’s very possible that one or more of the four players on expirings would be traded.

The roster is pretty much locked in for two seasons but after that who knows.

Garland exploded in his third year which got him an all star appearance and a max contract.

Tyson won’t be starting but if he has a monster third year then the Cavaliers will obviously want to keep him.

Most players on rookie contract either fail at some point and don’t get much or anything after their rookie contract (Windler) or their team extends them before they actually hit RFA. A handful like Jalen Duran and Okoro drag out.

Tyson’s next contract is up to Tyson’s play. I hope he’s worth a max. The Cavaliers would love to have that problem.

I do think they basically destroyed...err...changed his role post AS break. Tried to run him at 4 half the time. Still think he's more of a 2 strong enough to play 3.

It was a season of three parts imo

The run where he really exploded( the second part to his season) corresponded with a time that both Garland and Mobley missed time and Strus was not back yet.
So the need for a high usage creator was there.

Once you had Garland back, and then Harden on board + Mobley and Strus back, along with Mitchell, should Tyson really have been one of the main creators/usg/ballhandler guys?

Then on top of that, while he should have been re-adjusting to his support role, he missed like 8-10 games at the end of the season, also costing him time acclimating to playing with Harden (and Schroeder)
