Jim Schwartz: 2023 NFL Asst. COY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’m not going to comment on the salary part because I’m not too interested but to the remark that Schwartz wouldn’t get another HC look because he was proven to not be good at it before, Jeff Fisher is sitting pool side somewhere laughing his ass off.

This league will recycle burnit tires. It’s the land of 4th chances. The only reason he wouldn’t be one in the near future is because he doesn’t want it anymore.

Ehhh yes and no.

Broadly speaking, you’re right. Coaches very often get second and in some cases even third chances.

But when you drill down a little deeper into the specifics, head coaches who failed as badly as Schwartz did, come from a defensive background and are older often never get a second chance.

It would surprise me very much if anyone actually hired Schwartz this off-season or ever again candidly.

Jim Schwartz had a 29-51 record with 1 playoff appearance in 5 seasons as a head coach in Detroit.

His .363 winning percentage at his first job would be one of the worst in the history of the NFL to get a 2nd gig.

The record holder I believe is our old buddy Pat Shurmur who went 9-23 with the Browns (.281) before getting the Giants gig six years later.

I'd be more worried if there were more HC jobs available. Looking at the league, I only see ~3 teams that will probably be looking for a new HC (Bears, Saints, Giants?).

Sean Payton probably too soon right?

I just love that he unnecessarily talked all that shit and his team looks like garbage.
He forgot that he no longer has Drew Brees or thought he had Russell Wilson from 5-6 years ago.

I heard on good authority that Drew Brees was going to only be a Journeyman QB in the NFL.

Yeah it was a really bright guy that suggested that. Might’ve one too many beers with Brad Miller that convinced him that he knew pro athletes. ;)

Don’t feel bad I would’ve bet my 401k on Brady Quinn. Especially after that preseason game winning drive. :party smiley 004:

Here's a hot take.

If Jim Schwartz does become a head coach in 2024, it will be with the Cleveland Browns

At the time I knew Brad, he was far from a pro athlete. Brad got the reputation that he was lazy and drank too much. Probably because Brad was lazy and drank too much. Brad did get serious his senior and started lifting weights for the first time in his life, but still went undrafted.

For the record, I was never high on Lady Quinn. Fuck Notre Dame.

It would come down to an internal debate between the fan favorite Jim Schwartz and Andrew Berry's pick Bill Callahan. After a round of interviews, the Browns would clearly hire Deion Sanders for $20MM a year, because Haslam just can't help himself.

I have not kept up with this thread, so was a few pages back. But came here specifically to say what you said - he is solid insurance if KS gets the can. Jim has the trust of the Defense, and I would bet the Offense can easily get on board too, especially with him being such a players coach.
