Jiri Welsch Article

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We can't hide from the fact he was a major disappoitment here in Cleveland, as he was the month or so previous in Boston. But we also have to look at the fact the kid has shown he can play some solid ball. He is no scrub, but he needs to prove himself again, as the doubters are growing.

Well there are things I like about jiri. I like his ball handles and he is a pretty good passer. His shot looks like its all confidence problems, I bet he bangs them in open gym. Everytime he got the ball and he knew he was suppose to shoot it from distance, you could tell he was probably thinking in his head"oh shit, i came here to make these kind of shots".

I think if hes in a situation where there isnt so much pressure for him to perform, he could be a nice surprize. He will never be a really good player just because of his confidence problems, i think all players should be able to work through that. Since that does seem to be an issue with him, he needs to be somewhere where not much is expected of him.

When he came here, all eyes were on him to perform, so we will just have to wait and see. Sasha and luke have the most trade value, so it is somewhat likely he will be around next year and if we get our big time 2 guard, we could go with him in a lineup and he could be a pleasent surprize, never know :D

Upside, yes. I agree that Jiri can be a great role player. But you have to blame Paxson on this one. Terrible, terrible acquisition for us. I don't understand why we needed to get another white, 6'7 slasher/shooter. If this was "part 2" to a trade, what the hell happened to part 1?

I'd give him some time I guess.. let him play in summer leagues, see how he does in the preseason. Re-evaluate from there. His problems aren't his talent, but his mentality.

Really though, if his head is so shot from a few boos, then I don't know if we really want him long-term. Considering the fact that we have Luke that has great court vision, good passing skills, and a great shot, then I don't think we'll ever need Jiri. He doesn't seem like a winner to me, seems more like a pouter. It's great that he has PG skills, but in the mean time when the rookie PG is growing, LeBron can pick up minutes there, no big deal. I hope he's packaged in a trade to get back in the draft, somehow.

I don't think Jiri made the kind of effort that is going to get him starting minutes on this team. We have too many swing men and just not enough guys who go out and play one position or role well. James is the only player who actually has the talent to play more than one position well.

Also consider that Newble is getting the minutes because he is focused on his role. He is perhaps the best defender on the squad, and his shooting was much better this year than last (42.9%fg% 35.8% 3Pg% as compared to 32.9% and 15.8% the season prior. Jiri is giving up 20 lbs and had lower stats even at boston, AND is not as good a defender.

I think Lxyo is right in that we need to chalk the Jiri welsh era up to a Paxson obsession with swing men, trade him for something that fits and move on.

After a horrendous season, I am not sure alot of teams will be willing to take him. As stated above, Sasha is probably the one with the most trade value.

Paxon really did screw this one up. He pretty much triplicated the wing player that we already have.

In an ideal world, Jiri should be on the block and the new GM should look around to see what he can get from him, but I guarentee you, it wouldn't be much. It would be wiser to keep him and trade one of the wing guys that can get you something worthwhile.

Jiri has some value. 2 mil in cap relief for next season.. that's about it.

I really dont care much about Jiri. I wouldnt mind at all seeing him traded for even a second rounder. He didnt do anything for us last season and Boston was apparently happy to see him go. I think he could develop into a good player, but he isnt that important to us. It might be smart to keep him as extra insurance as a third guard though.
