Joe Schobert

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Maybe it's me but Schobert seems to be getting lucky with these INTs and it's not sustainable. It seems like every tipped pass falls into his chest
He seems more technician than any overwhelming trait. Always in position to make the play or capitalize off of mistakes.

I don’t disagree, but there’s also something to be said of having the awareness to be in the right place at the right time to make those plays.

At the end of the Miami game thread, Lee and I had a little back and forth about his value, but I definitely think the interest in keeping Hunt in Brown and Orange is mutual. This is his home and the team had his back at his personal low point. Plus, it's beautiful the way Hunt and Chubb work together, blocking for each other like fullbacks when the other guy gets the call.

Hunt will be the easiest to keep. His value is discounted because he is restricted. If we place a 2nd round tinder on him which is my guess, that is 3 million we have to give him. We can match anyone, but we will get a 2nd round pick from that team if he walks, meaning not only do you have to sign a guy who is a risk to a big contract, you are giving up a 2nd round pick to do it.

I think he signs a 3 year deal to stay with most of the first 2 years guaranteed, Hunt needs money and doesnt have a ton of options.

He should be, but there was a fairly strong chorus claiming that Schobert was gone at the end of the season because "Dorsey doesn't value linebackers". I'm curious if they still feel the same certainty that we won't spend money to keep him. We got murdered last year by underneath passes in those games Schobert missed, but you can see how his presence this year has really helped plug that particular hole in the defense.

Losing him would be a major blow.

I was part of that Chorus, but Scho has played way to well to let him walk, he needs to be priority one. I still say Dorsey doesnt value linebackers as much as other positons, but he isnt an idiot either, Kirksey is not just replaceable, he has been by Wilson, but Schobert is a must.

I don't see us making too many big time aditions this year. A year older, some draft picks, 2 offensive lineman, more safeties for depth, let Randall, Kiksey and TJ Carrie and both starting OT's go, frees up some money, but I think we use most of that money to put back into the OL, keep Scho (hunt will be relatively cheap), and find a safety.

Its not the interceptions that make him valuable, he has been decently lucky. He leads the team in tackles, has 2 forced fumbles, 1 recovered, 2 sacks from ML, (not edge), 9 pass defended, I repeat...9, 6 tackles for loss, several stuffs, etc.

He has been all over the place, is athletic and plays the middle linebacker at a pro bowl level and is very underrated around the league

With LB's, the opportunities are typically the same, +/- a few......the difference with Joe is that he actually has good hands. So when he gets an opportunity, he doesn't have it careen off his cement paws, like every other LB.

It feels like Dorsey has a plan on which positions he feels are easily replaceable and which need priority money. I'm not going to pretend I agree with all his decisions, but in the off-season most Browns fans thought Schobert wasn't likely to return. They believe Wilson is developing into a solid starter, especially in pass coverage.

Fire Dorsey

You would think they would work in Takitaki alot more now to make sure he is ready.

I'm hoping they want to get a new DC and don't want to invest in someone until they are sure he is a right fit for the new system.

I dont think MkC knows what's going on.

MKC blows, but when she puts out pieces like this she’s usually pretty sure of her intel.

I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss this one.

If we let Schwalk, so be it.

Mack Wilson is a budding star in our LB corps and we need to save money somewhere.

Though I’d like to have him back here for sure.

This is wrong on so many levels. Mack Wilson has been okay but he's certainly not on the same level as Schobert nor is he even close to ready to take over to Schobert.

This is the correct take, anyone thinking Mack Wilson will just fill such a void left by Schobert is just being blindly optimistic.

Schobert is an All Pro caliber player, so letting him walk seems highly questionable. Especially given who else they’ve invested money in thus far.

I don’t want to overpay for Schobert, but if we haven’t made contact for months it sounds like we’re willing to let him walk regardless of price. Which seems like a mistake.

I could very well see this becoming a variation of the Zeitler/Corbett debacle from this year. Assuming Kirko is also gone (or stays and gets injured again), I could see a Wilson and Takitaki LB corps getting roasted on a weekly basis leaving us wondering why we didn’t even try to retain our Pro Bowl LB.
