They're are going to be in for a rude awakening if teams actually start to contest Nance's threes . A decent part of why he's been hitting them at a decent clip is that other teams are letting him shoot.

That's a win if guys are flying to to contest a Nance 3. HE will hit the open man

I liked the Beilein hire. Now I'm not so sure. Nance already thinks hes the defacto PG half the time. Now he's gonna start raining bricks with the green light from the coach.
Spoken like a true tank commander.

I don't mean if teams start doubling him, I mean if the players guarding him start actually contesting his threes at all. Last season they just sagged off him and let him shoot, I don't think individual players actually defending him would result in too many easy plays for the Cavs.

Beeline knows the Cavs need another year of outright tank. The benefit's outweigh winning. Then we can bring in another top dog for Garland to play with and then the wins start rising in 2020-21.

It sucks for fans, but rebuilding sucks. It always has.

It creates space on the floor, so if he has it and a guy shows, he is going to get it to Darius or Sexton or Jordan. There are things I don't like about Larry, but he doesn't seem to force shots. He took 2 in the preseason game. I still think he is mostly going to take only wide open shots.

I will say one thing, if he cracks the top 5 in shot attempts that is probably a bad thing unless they are all dunks off penetration

I just hope he is really just trying to let players get minutes in preseason without regard to fit and he knows that players like Sexton and Garland should NOT be on the court at the same time as Clarkson, Knight, etc. I think he understands this, but obviously the preseason rotations (at least with the core guys) have been a little concerning to me so far

Almost any big man of worth sat out yesterday, this was always going to lead to horrible rotations and 4 guard sets. Its pre-season, I don't think they cared about this game

bring in another top dog? we don't even know if Garland can stay healthy or what he will be against real competition. I hate being so negative about Garland, but he has done nothing to earn anyone's respect and way too soon to be assuming he is for real at the pro level.
You can be optimistic if you like, but I think even if Garland is a top 20 guard in the NBA at some point it will not come for 3-4 years. He is at minimum a season away from being strong enough to handle NBA physicality in the paint without getting hurt over and over

I think he knows this. He has been playing wild lineups on purpose to see who fits

Nance needs to take 3s so he can play PF. When he plays exclusively at center he ends up either losing his explosiveness or gets injured.

They should have been encouraging him to take 3s last year instead of trying to be a point guard or whatever else he was doing. Hopefully next Beilein will encourage him to work on actual post moves.

He isn't ever going to live up to his contract extension if doesn't build on his game and transition from a undersized center to a stretch 4.

Beilein's offense is a joke. It's very Collegy. Very few high PnRs and the way that he tells his primary ball handler to pass the ball to the big/wing right after he passes the half court in semi transition instead of attacking going down hill is moronic. His sets are ineffective, repetitive and easy to defend.

I'm sorry, but I can not watch Garland pass up the ball to a worthless big or Sexton just to give the ball back to him after his stupid sets fail when he has a chance to attack in the PnR going down hill and create a much better scoring opportunity.
