Is it time for us to cycle through another Mike Brown era?

Obvi way late on this, but given that Beilein will eventually be fired it will become relevant again.

It would be a great running gag- and one I think MB would be on board for- to hire him once every third Head Coach.

To make it better, at the intro press conference nobody acknowledges it. They just introduce him as the new Cavs Head Coach. When he is inevitably asked about the record amount of times he has been hired/fired by an org, if he thinks its odd, etc he just hits you with one of these:

Oh well, Korfball it is!

I'm just saying... Trojans just captured their 12th consecutive championship in England Korfball.

Jumping on the Trojan bandwagon now.

Typical frontrunner.

Norwich Knights are making a run this year.

If we go:
Garland
Sexton
Osman
Windler
Love

I just may lose it watching us give up 140ppg.
Hey, at least we’d be fun to watch offensively! This team is going to struggle some defensively- just expect it.

Right! If we lose 128-121 and go 26-56 and end up with the 6th worst record while Garland looks like a future star, Sexton improves defensively at least individually, and the other young guys look like they at least belong in the league....I honestly would be super excited. Then we could collect another top 10 pick, and no longer owe any first rounders(only 2 seconds to the Pelicans). Maybe we get a decent asset for Kevin Love too.

Part of me wonders if Altman et. al are playing for the 2021 draft? The draft will be loaded with talent because you're basically getting two crops of elite talent. Even if the Cavs are a seven or eight seed, they're still in a great lottery position, and that's not counting if they can flip Love for a first rounder in that draft.

I was wondering the same. Any moves we make I wonder if hes targeting 2021 first rounders. Getting an extra 1st or 2 in the draft or even early 2nds you are getting a legit talent. With Top Freshmen + Top HS Seniors its going to push any legit Sophmore, Junior, Senior down the boards. Some of the undrafted guys that year will be typical late first/early 2nd round talents.

Has it been confirmed that the 2021 draft is when high schoolers can re-enter directly?

Obviously, whichever draft that is will be a better draft, but I wonder about the Cam Reddish factor, where projected studs in high school don't quite pan out in college.

It's a huge leap to go direct from high school to the NBA, and the projections are much more uncertain. I mean, Barrett, not Zion, was the No. 1 guy, right?

There's going to be a huge risk for greedy GM's valuing ceiling above all else, and overdrafting high school kids.

I thought so... but I cannot find anything confirming online. Sorry for the confusion.

Always going to be risk involved with making picks. Ceiling is a factor in making those picks. With every NBA Franchise but 1 having a G-League affiliate developing raw HS Kids who have tantalizing ceilings will become easier. I think the NBA could become some what similar to Hockey and Baseball where they draft kids and have them develop in the G-League then call them up when they are ready for the NBA. Hockey has the AHL for prospects, Baseball obviously has minor leagues, NBA is going to have the G-League. So I don't necessarily think its greedy GM's valuing ceiling above all else, but them trusting in their development team. Of course this was unimaginable 6-7 years ago when if a Lotto pick got sent to the D-League it was considered a big deal I think the long term plan is for it to just be the developmental system in the NBA even for high end talent.

It means you can get a pretty sure thing at 8 or so though. Some teams in the top 7 will take big flyers on guys like Cam in the top of the lottery and you can snag a great guy later.

Gotta take advantage when other teams make mistakes in the draft.

You're talking more about developing prospectis- I'm talking more about opportuntiy to evaluate prospects before selecting them in the draft.

The G-League is primarily a repository for guys who aren't good enough to be in the NBA, and either too old for college and/or academically ineligible. Perhaps a very small number who just want quick money. But college is a much better - and more enjoyable - showcase than is the G-League, so most college-eligible prospects will choose that.

What I was really referring to in my prior post was maybe the top 20 or so kids coming out of high school. If they can get drafted right into the NBA, they're not going to choose a G-League contract instead.

So, I was talking about GM's in the draft who are going to have to choose between high-end high school kids, and kids with some college. And that's where I think the pressure to find the next superstar is going to push more of them into taking the higher risk high school kids with the perceived higher ceiling.

And of course, one of the reasons for that perceived higher ceiling will be that they haven't yet disappointed in college.

I understand what you were going to say. What I was saying was when HS kids become draft eligible again will enter the draft and get drafted highly and teams will sign them to a rookie deal then send them down to the G-League to develop some. In the future I don't think seeing lottery picks getting drafted and having extended stints in the G-League to develop further will be less surprising. Clearly HS kids right now who don't want to go to college will go overseas to get money instead of the G-League route. But a prime example was Jalen Lecque this year, he passed on HS ended up going undrafted but got a 4 year deal with the Suns with 2 guaranteed years. Hes likely going to spending a lot of time in the G-League but will still be making NBA minimum salary. I think the NBA is planning for the G-League to be the equivalent of the AHL/Minor League Baseball, where legit prospects play their instead of the scrubs that play their now. He wasn't drafted highly by us but I am guessing Kevin Porter Jr. is going to spend a decent amount time in the G-League himself. I just think the longterm goal is for teams to send their prospects to to develop not just the rejects.

Hope he could survive the NBA grind... 82 games with all the travels, practice, film watching and planning... That is a lot stuff to throw at a 66 year old body doing the gig for the 1st time and still learning how to deal with the nba hc job... You can see all this coaches age exponentially once they became head coach, it is a demanding and high stress job...

I like what I have seen so far. Can't wait to see what he can do with this rag tag bunch

Anything that stood out in particular?

I could only watch the highlights, but I saw some very nice spacing at times.
