Re: Johnny Manziel

I think he'll bulk up to around 210-215 by the time he starts playing this year, more than enough to make it through the majority of an NFL season. He's probably a good bet to miss a couple games every year, but I'll take that slight trade-off if his reckless playing style equates to a more dangerous, versatile offense. Ben Roethlisberger only played a complete 16 game season twice in his ten year career, Donovan McNabb only played four complete seasons in thirteen years, and Michael Vick only made it through full one season in eleven years of professional football. It didn't make them any less effective when they were on the field though, it just drove their fans crazy when they ran.

Big Ben is built thickly, as well as McNabb. Vick's style is what hurts him. Ben and McNabb were also able to play well while hurt due to them being effective pocket passers difficult to bring down due to their size. Vick is a sitting duck while hurt as he hasn't improved much in the pocket passer category, he was really only effective when the threat to run was there. To a lesser extent, RGIII (smaller sample size) is more like Vick. Great when fully healthy, but crappy when asked to win a game from the pocket.

I don't like Bridgewater's size, but I can deal with his smaller (as of now) frame as he's a pocket first QB. Eliminate any extra introduction to injury outside the pocket and chances for a full-season go up.

Plugged in people told me in October that this draft may not have the franchise QB Browns fans want to see available... and the talking heads are beginning to catch up with my people in the know.

... I'm just not ready to hand the reigns over to Brian Hoyer for a year, which is what we'll be doing if we do go QB early. Next year's QB class looks stacked with Winston/Mariota/Hundley all eligible to come out but there's no guarantee we're going to be picking as high as 4 again.

Every draft, the next years draft looks to be filled with studs. After the 2013 dud of a QB class, most experts said the 2014 QB class was going to be awesome with Bridgewater and Boyd locks for top 5. Well...

I believe the smoke about the Browns really liking Derek Carr. I have a feeling they are targeting someone at 4 and if he's not there, Carr is the guy at 26 or in a trade up scenario.

He's in there. He may not be atop the draft boards currently, but there is going to be a successful QB in this draft. It's up to the Browns to find him.

The Browns haven't taken a QB in the top-10 since Couch. IMO, that directly correlates to their enduring sucktitude.

Re: Johnny Manziel

Manziel's size is like the fourth worst thing about him I can think of. His hands are big enough to make his height somewhat irrelevant, I guess.

Going into the year I never saw Tahj Boyd as a first rounder, I was much more excited about Bridgewater and Manziel before the season. I've always followed Boyd, he was close to being a Buckeye after being a blue chip talent coming out of Virginia.

IMO the experts got it right, this class of QBs is much better than last years'. I think Bortles, Bridgewater, and Manziel all go in the top 4, and Minnesota reaches for David Carr at 8. That'd be 4 quarterbacks drafted before last years' highest drafted QB in EJ Manuel at 15.

I'm not in favor of punting on the QB position this year in order to chase a perceived better talent next year. There's no guarantee the Browns are going to be pick high enough next year to even obtain that player, I'd rather roll the dice on one of the highly-rated QBs this year.

Do you think that Minnesota would go for the reaching for a QB thing again after Ponder? I mean, it's the same front office, but I do wonder if they'll walk that line again..

The whole Josh Freeman fiasco leads me to believe they're not sold on Ponder. I don't agree with them reaching for Carr there, but I think they'll take him there because their options in the second round will be so much worse.

Re: Johnny Manziel

I don't see Minnesota interested in Carr, not will Norv Turner. Turner wants a big qb with a big arm and good to great down field accuracy. I see Bortles as their number 1 guy and probably Mettenberger in the 2nd as their contingency plan. Carr is only adequate size and down field throws are not his strength.
