It's been discussed a lot and will continue to be a hot topic until he signs an extension or gets traded, so let's take a closer look at Jose and his future here.

He has two team options left - $12 M in 2022, $14 M in 2023 - and is currently set to become a free agent at age 30.

Possible extension comps include Altuve and Yelich. Ramirez may prefer to wait it out though and go after Rendon-like money.

Thoughts on a fair deal for both sides?

JRam's agent is known for resigning to teams if they wish to stay there and JRam by all info wants to stay in Cleveland...

JRam should get 30ish in free agency so as I have said before a 4 year 84 deal is very reasonable... 11+13+30+30 equals 84 so a 4 year 84 million extension (AAV of 21 million, essentially the 11 and 13 million dollar years are replaced by 21 million) is something both sides without a doubt in my mind agree upon.

It's the how many years after 4 does JRam's agent want the deal to go.... 5/114 or 6/144 type of deals are actually feasible and I am thinking one will be close to the deal on the table...

He isnt guaranteed any money the next two seasons, so increasing the pay to 21-24 area over 6 seasons will give him the amount of money if he played out his contract and went to free agency. This is where I believe the contract will be at...

Something around 5/125 seems like a good starting point for both sides. This adds three years of team control, and increases Jose's income over the next 5 years.

From there, it will come down to whether the added security outweighs the potential loss of earnings beyond those 5 years.

If Jose thinks he'll still be able to cash in after the 2026 season, this deal is a no-brainer. If he's concerned about a potential drop in production, it might make more sense to work out something in the 4/100 range and have the chance to hit FA a year earlier.

ExtensionNo Extension (assuming he gets a $30M AAV deal in FA)Age
2022$25$1229
2023$25$1430
2024$25$3031
2025$25$3032
2026$25$3033
$125$116

The immediate security cannot be discounted though. An extension guarantees Jose $100+ million without having to play another two seasons at an elite level. A lot can happen in two years. Injuries, drop in production, etc. We've already seen Jose suffer an extended drop in production. If that happens in 2023, there goes the big contract.

Also, we know the FO was willing to go $200+ million on Frankie, and Jose, despite being less heralded, has been the better player over the years. Who's to say they don't try to lock him in as a Cleveland lifer with a longer, and even more lucrative deal.

I think as a matter of positive PR they need to go hard after an extension. Sub-.500 finish with new name that isn't going to sell tickets or merchandise in the short term needs some positive offseason news and a face of the franchise to promote. Give him a 4 year $120 million extension to add to the remaining 2 years and keep him around for awhile.

do we think an extension would have to happen pretty quickly - wouldnt the rest of the off-season revolve around it?

Do any of these guys do even a minimal amount of research before writing?

What is the last thing that the Cleveland baseball franchise needs?

Another young MIF prospect that needs to be added to the 40 man.

However Dominic Smith was on my target list last year (along with Amed), and both he and McNeal would be solid buy low candidates....but not in a package for the best 3B on the planet.

Wow.. a near AL MVP candidate for some prospects and two guys who's OPS were less than Eddie Rosario while he was with the Indians, less than Brad Zimmer.. just less.. There would be a $ 6 MM saving in 2022.. but that would reverse out in 2023..

Yeah.. someone above mentioned not a lot of research went into this "deal".. or, as it should be called. "Met's steal"

As far as the Toronto offer last trading deadline.. there's probably some truth to it.. The question that needs to be asked: Would it have made a difference to the Blue Jays of more than one game if a deal DID come to pass?.. maybe before next year, it will be revisited..

I'll tell you what. I'll send JRam to the Mets for Mauricio, McCann, McNeil, Vientos, and Alonso. I would then flip Mauricio, Jones, Plesac, and Gimenez to Baltimore for Mullins and Means. Then sign Conforto. In the end I would have a rotation of Bieber, Means, Quantrill, Civale, and McKenzie along with an OF consistenting of Conforto, Straw, and Mullins. The IF would be Vientos at 3B, Rosario at SS(for now), Alonso at 1B, McCann at C, and McNeil at 2B.

Don't worry Coach and GSon, I already checked the values at BTV. LOL!

It's creative.. and makes the club stronger, overall without touching the top shelf prospects the Guardians want to keep.. This is how a deal should be cobbled together..

...and yes.. everyone already knows..

This was another bad idea so I deleted it. No, I'm not going to delete all my posts. Thanks in advance.
