Josh Gordon discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

The front office must think that Gordon will get in trouble and miss considerable time because of it. They aren't sold that he has learned his lesson. High risk vs high reward.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

Like I said in the Trent thread; I swear to a God I will pull a complete 360 and redirect all of my support and anything that has to do with being a fan to the Cincinnati Bengals football organization; permanently.

I don't have patience with this team anymore. Trade Gordon and I'm done. It would be the biggest insult to a fan like me.

How many times will you have been "done" with the Browns at that point? 26?

Wouldn't that 360 just put you back to being a Browns fan again?

Might the Cleveland Browns' front office force coach Rob Chudzinski to go back on his word to Josh Gordon?

Gordon revealed two weeks ago that Chudzinski texted him to assure the wide receiver that he will not be traded. General manager Michael Lombardi and CEO Joe Banner are not actively shopping their star players, but that doesn't mean they won't listen to offers.
People informed of the Browns' thinking told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on Monday that they have talked to other teams about Gordon, with the asking price of a second-round draft pick in return.
The receiver-needy San Francisco 49ers, in particular, have shown interest in Gordon. A deal now is considered unlikely, however, with Mario Manningham and Michael Crabtree nearing returns from their injuries, per Rapoport.
Manningham is eligible to be activated from the physically unable to perform list in two weeks. Coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that Crabtree might return from Achilles tendon surgery as soon as mid-November.
Any Gordon trade will be tricky for the first-place Browns. He arguably is the most gifted player on Cleveland's offense, with potential to emerge as a top-10 NFL receiver. He's also a suspension risk with a reputation of running with the wrong crowd and possessing both an entitlement mentality and a poor work ethic.

It doesn't help that Lombardi is on record as labeling Gordon a waste of a second-round pick in 2012.
Even if Lombardi and Banner view Gordon as too volatile to build around, they are unlikely to field an offer from a team willing to overlook that excessive baggage while meeting Cleveland's asking price.
The latest "Around The League Podcast" recapped every Week 5 game.

Relax.

Wouldn't that 360 just put you back to being a Browns fan again?

Just like the 360 he did after the Trent trade

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

To me, the chances of a 2nd round pick (especially a low one) panning out and becoming an impact starter for his career are much lower than the chances Gordon fucks up again and is suspended.

I know the guy is dumb as hell, but I just struggle to wrap my mind around someone possibly being stupid enough to risk being suspended for an entire season and ruining his career and chances to make millions of dollars.

Keep him. He's too talented to give up for a 2nd rounder. Best playmaker we have had in years.

A bad one?

It's a rational thought to say 'stay out of trouble and earn your millions of dollars'. However; some people can't come to that rational thought. Pac-man Jones is a great example. All he had to do was not get arrested, that doesn't sound too hard. But he couldn't stop getting arrested. In fact he's been arrested I think twice this year!

Gordon, mentally may not fully understand what is at stake here. He may think that he can get away with things; he can hang around certain guys and still be fine. If that is the case, and I have no idea if it is or not, he will get burned. It's only a matter of time. He needs to dedicate himself to his team and his playbook. Easier said than done for a early 20 something kid that's a millionaire and already has a history of running in the wrong circles.

Here's the deal. Banner wants to change the culture of the entire organization. Gordon still doesn't know the playbook, he's still a regular at certain nightclubs, he's lost his driving privileges, he shows up late to meetings, accused of loafing in practice, and he's failed two NFL drug tests already. I have heard from a former Browns employee, now working for another AFC North team, that word around the NFL is that Josh Gordon just doesn't get it; that Banner hasn't seen any growth in maturity and the fact he's very cavalier about his "situation" (he thinks he's above the law) compounds the issue. There are rumors out there that some teams wouldn't take him even if the Browns simply waived him, that's supposedly how disruptive this kid is.....

I've said this after the Richardson trade and it's applicable now; let's put things into perspective. Is Josh Gordon the Browns biggest playmaker? That's an easy no, Jordan Cameron is. Is Josh Gordon one strike away from a one year suspension? Yes. Is Josh Gordon making the right decisions to ultimately live a drug free life? It doesn't appear so. Do the Browns need a Josh Gordon type receiver to win? No, a better QB will take care of that. Do we as fans have as much information on the situation as the front office does to make a rational decision? No, we don't.

I just don't see why any fans should have an issue if it's deemed that Josh Gordon's personality isn't a fit for the new Browns. Do people really think Banner is just trying to mess with the fans? Come on. Just because we've won three games, does that mean Banner needs to sellout on his culture changing crusade? Want some stats? Only 12 of the current top 50 receivers in the NFL were 1st round picks so I reject the assertion that talented receivers can't be found late in the 2nd round or at any point after it. I get that fans would be upset because they'd lose a flashy playmaker but fans should be more concerned over the line play and QB play because those two things, in conjunction, would take care of the WR play. I've said it before, I'll say it again, it might take some time to understand it, but Banner really knows his shit. It's fun to bash him because he's quirky and makes shrewd decisions but he knows more than all of his predecessors combined (but that's not saying much).

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

He's worth the risk. I mean if they're going to draft a QB, it doesn't really make a lot of sense to trade away his most talented weapons when doing so. I wouldn't do it. I understand he has some history, but he's pretty darn special.

I thought he was just a good receiver heading into the year, but I am starting to retract that. He looks ready to bust out onto the scenes and be a top-5 receiver in this league. Do we really want to lose a weapon like that? A guy that's big, tall, and runs like a deer. I don't.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

If they feel like he's a lock to violate the conduct policy I would absolutely move him asap. He will be worthless at that point. Santonio Holmes was similarly talented and troubled and he only garnered a 5th round pick(after a 1249yd season).

A former Browns employee needs the word from "Around the NFL" that Josh Gordon doesn't get it?

That doesn't make much sense.

This board is no place for unsubstantiated stuff like that.
