Josh Gordon the subject of Browns-49ers trade talks

Might the Cleveland Browns' front office force coach Rob Chudzinski to go back on his word to Josh Gordon?

Why do you love football? Share your story and you could win a VIP Super Bowl XLVIII trip.
Gordon revealed two weeks ago that Chudzinski texted him to assure the wide receiver that he will not be traded. General manager Michael Lombardi and CEO Joe Banner are not actively shopping their star players, but that doesn't mean they won't listen to offers.

People informed of the Browns' thinking told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on Monday that they have talked to other teams about Gordon, with the asking price of a second-round draft pick in return.

The receiver-needy San Francisco 49ers, in particular, have shown interest in Gordon. A deal now is considered unlikely, however, with Mario Manningham and Michael Crabtree nearing returns from their injuries, per Rapoport.

Manningham is eligible to be activated from the physically unable to perform list in two weeks. Coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that Crabtree might return from Achilles tendon surgery as soon as mid-November.

Any Gordon trade will be tricky for the first-place Browns. He arguably is the most gifted player on Cleveland's offense, with potential to emerge as a top-10 NFL receiver. He's also a suspension risk with a reputation of running with the wrong crowd and possessing both an entitlement mentality and a poor work ethic.

It doesn't help that Lombardi is on record as labeling Gordon a waste of a second-round pick in 2012.

Even if Lombardi and Banner view Gordon as too volatile to build around, they are unlikely to field an offer from a team willing to overlook that excessive baggage while meeting Cleveland's asking price.

........Is this a fire sale, or whats the deal?

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

I don't understand why they would do this. I can understand building for the future and collecting draft picks but they need to keep some proven talent around

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

I don't know why the fuck they would trade him. We are 3-0 with him on the field. He is clearly our best offensive weapon and he is still young. What the hell is the point? Why trade proven talent? At least with Richardson it was still a question whether he could play or not. This kid can ball.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

Coming from a fan of a different team, it didn't make sense. Had to ask why they even would?

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

Well lets hope this doesn't happen.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

No.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

To paraphrase Charles Schulz,

Of all the Cleveland Browns things to do, trading your two young talented offensive players for picks is the Cleveland Browniest.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

I'll be pissed, but: Josh Gordon for Ryan Mallet. You heard it here first.

Mallett looked terrible last summer, but that could have partially been the receivers.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

I can't imagine there is a team in the league that wouldn't trade their second rounder for Josh Gordon. Even if he is a fucking idiot off the field.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

Please god no.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

I won't watch them the rest of the year. Not that it will affect them. It just will piss me off that much. This is just some stupid fucking bullshit. They won't find a WR as good as Gordon. I don't give a shit what round it is in.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

If the reports are true that the Browns have talked to other teams with the asking price of a 2nd and he still is on this team, that should say something. The league believes the dude is a huge risk not just Banner and Lombardi. You think about it, a contending team should throw a 2nd for him because he's that good and the pick, if things go well, will be bottom half of the round.

I will be disappointed if they trade Gordon because he's a special talent, that's easy to see on the field. We also haven't had anyone like him since we came back in 99. When will we see someone like him again? Hopefully not another 15 years.

We don't know him personally. We don't know if he's changed his ways. Is he hanging around the same crowd or worse? Only the Browns and those closest to them know that. If he's still not taking this whole thing called a career seriously, then I'm 100% on board with trading him because it's only a matter of time until he screws up again. However; if he's really getting his life together and changing what he does, then you gotta keep him.

Needed a gif to capture my reaction to this when I saw it on my screen.

I am not saying his demeanor is everything but I know from his interview alone on NFL Network that he is a well spoken KID with a good attitude. Clearly young and it shows. I have 3 friends that are on/played for Baylor. One knew him well. Said the off the field issues don't reflect who he is a person. Good kid just mixes with the wrong crowd. You just hope his friends on the team are good influences.

Re: Browns wanting 2nd round pick for Gordon. Niners interested?

Like I said in the Trent thread; I swear to a God I will pull a complete 360 and redirect all of my support and anything that has to do with being a fan to the Cincinnati Bengals football organization; permanently.

I don't have patience with this team anymore. Trade Gordon and I'm done. It would be the biggest insult to a fan like me.
