Josh Gordon Relapse 2018

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Remember when the Patriots committed highway robbery in that trade?

It is such a bad time for this, but it's hard to not look back at the people lamenting the move with your nose up. As sad a story as it is, it was fairly predictable. I feel stupid for sticking up for Josh at the beginning of the season.

Goodnight, sweet prince.

Depending on his violation, this may finally be the end of the road for Josh Gordon. What a complete and total waste of talent.

What's really bad for him is that he never made it off his rookie deal. And we've heard he has ridiculous child support bills piling up.

Sadly it likely only gets worse for Josh Gordon moving forward. I fear for how the rest of his life will play out.

Pour one out for Josh Gordon's career. He done.

I think it's perfectly fair to point those out who sneered at the parameters of the trade. Those who did so made their feelings abundantly clear and turned their respective noses up at everyone who had a level head about it.

It's also completely separate and warranted to wish Josh Gordon the best in his personal life. In my eyes, he needs to quit football - it does not appear to make him happy nor provide him an escape of any sort.

Does anyone still believe he has a mental disorder? It feels like hes using some sort of mental health issue on wanting to due drugs. While I understand pot can help in certain situations; it's clearly bigger than just a little bit if pot to take the edge off. It's like hes using mental illness as a crutch.

It all depends on how much or how little you believe addiction to be a mental health issue.

It's almost as if mental illness and substance abuse aren't mutually exclusive but actually often go hand in hand.

Could be depression, which substance abuse can alleviate in the short term and exacerbate long term.

He's been abusing drugs and alcohol since middle school. That's the age when you are building up internal mechanisms to cope with the mounting pressures, obstacles and responsibilities of life. If you using drugs to escape all that, you don't build up that character and fortitude. Give someone like that money and fame, and it only heightens their dependency on the things they've always used to cope with. The fact the he played 11 games this season is amazing considering the life he's had.

It's an uphill climb for Gordon. I think it's good for him to get kicked out of the league. I'd rather have financial issues than battle mental health and substance abuse.

Did he do enough for the Pats that the Browns still get the 5th round pick?

I know it was conditional just can’t remember the details.

Great point - my brother is "depressed" but has smoked weed almost everyday for the past ten years along with borderline alcoholism. He saw a shrink that challenged him to go completely sober for two months and see if he has a new outlook on life. Of course he didn't do that; "weed is how I medicate", and his life has only gotten worse because he doesn't take care of himself. However, he never thinks HE is to blame.

Gordon very may well have a mental illness or he may just be very very immature like my brother. Regardless, I am not surprised by this news.
