Is it a complete pipe dream, given Atlanta's ongoing ownership issues, to trade for Josh Smith?

Would something like this work in sign and trade form?

Gibson or Pavs
Vareajo
#19 pick

for Josh Smith

Than do Wally, Gibson or Pavs, 2010 #1 pick, & Snow

for Redd and Gadzuric

West
Redd
LBJ
Josh Smith
Wallace

Z as the first big off the bench keeping him fresher for the postseason
Joe Smith
Sign MLE Combo Guard(Pietrus, JR Smith, Duhon)
Resign Devin Brown
Damon Jones
Gadzuric

We'd obviously be thin at the guard position and probably need to resign D Brown, keep Damon Jones, and add a wing/combo guard who could help LeBron bring the ball up when West is on the bench.

Also, with both Gibson and Josh Smith being RFA's, what restrictions are there on them being part of sign and trades.(trying to remember the Joe Johnson situation as reference)

Board residents and experts are either halves of this scenario possible/plausible/worthwhile?

I'd love to get Josh Smith but they're definitely not letting him go..

I think Childress would be easier to get off Atlanta.

I would say Josh is probably their most popular player. I can't see the Hawks front office letting him go.

talk about a great PF fit for LeBron...

I'd love to see it happen, but as a restricted FA he'd have to sign here and give the Hawks some reason not to match (meaning a big contract ala Boozer, but the Cavs don't have the cap room). If he could convince Atlanta that he wants out, they could try to do some kind of sign-and-trade.

The Hawks don't have a lot of terrible contracts that the Cavs could take off their hands. Bibby is expensive and so is Joe Johnson, but besides that, their worst contract is Speedy Claxton at $5 mil/yr through 2010.

This would be the best fit in my opinion.

Why would the Hawks give up a key piece of their nucleus for anything that we have? The Hawks have a nice core and it includes Josh Smith... Trading away accomplishes nothing for them and would just put them farther behind in re-building unless they can get a great player in return...
