Koby proving he’s just Gilbert’s puppet. With Dan out Koby can’t do anything.

When they didn't unload him on draft night I felt it wasn't going to happen. I would like to do the specs on that deal for # 17..I'm sure some details will come out at some point.

Could you refrain from posting these insufferable sky-is-falling hot takes, even for just a moment? Do better.

I was initially on the wagon that insisted we must move JR Smith on draft night. However, as the draft transpired, the two guards we coveted (per multiple RCF insiders pre-draft and confirmation through connected journalists post-draft)--Romeo Langford and Kevin Porter Jr.--both started to fall. Both were brought in, wined and dined, and the Cavs were very high on both. Then, it became evident that Porter Jr. would be sliding. Ultimately, after working the phones, we bought a 3rd 1st round pick anyway and got a guy we were very high on.

Once we acquired that 3rd pick, it was always going to take a stellar offer to move off of JR Smith. A mid/late first wasn't enough given the implications. Now we get to save $11 million, leaving us a window to get out of the tax.

We still have a ton of expiring money to be used at the deadline this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see us get another two--maybe even three--1st round picks that way instead.

It's important to note that taking on money with JR would've limited some of our deadline moves as we were going to have to somehow position ourselves to get out of the tax. At least now, we'll have breathing room to take on some bad two-year money for our expiring money. That's never something Dan would balk at--he encourages it.

Plus, it sounds as if teams were not offering us one-year money for JR's contract. All of them wanted to get out from two-year money for that contract. If that's the case, we can just take those same contracts at the deadline for expiring money and a similar return--mid/late 1st round picks.

Dan Gilbert is the de facto GM of the Cavaliers and he always will be as long as he owns the team.

Any blowback that Koby Altman receives for failing to trade JR is really his own fault, for hyping the trade value of the contract to the media.

This gives us more flexibility in the deadline with our expiring contracts and get out of the tax now. We got what we wanted in the draft and now it is next season. More teams to provide 1st round picks as the deadline comes near. Thanks to JR who had that great stretch in our finals win in that 4th quarter.

So much talent: should have had a Klay Thompson like career but alas the move to Cleveland really did resurrect his career and at his best he was definitely a contender caliber starting SG

He needed to have Clay's mindset...dude wants to ball and not get distracted by outside stuff.

What gamble ? 500000?
Just stop , you know what I'm talking about.
Just about every post is about trading him..no one cares about the money he gets from stretching him .Cavs thought they could trade but but it didn't happen.
