I've always disdained all the hate a man with the last name of Love has gotten. He can play for my team anytime and I believe the Cavalier organization feels the same way.

He brings TONS off the court and is a viable high level player on it. I personally still believe him to be a star level talent as he does things in a game star players can do. Where I would get agitated with him is at times I think he needs to get his and he just doesn't seem interested. In my estimation, the only way you move him is if you get a young talent like a Michael Porter Jr or a guy of that ilk. Otherwise, I believe the franchise thinks his contact is worth the value he brings attention wise to the team.

Let me know when that happens.

He was having a good 2020 until the league decided to shut the franchise down... 17.6 points per game on 45% from the field, 9.8 rebounds per game and 3.2 assists per game. He hit over 37% of his threes and drew almost four free throws a game.

He isn't a rim protector and his perimeter defense is a liability, but those are productive offensive numbers from anyone.

I agree he should remain a Cavalier unless there is a good trade on the table for an established younger player who is a cusp All Star or near All Star for their ceiling.

Altman said on 92.3 the fan that Kevin was not happy initially playing with such green guys. He said he really came around and Bickerstaff helped and that he is actually having fun again.

He was frustrated he wasn't getting the ball wide open I think, and that improved later in the year. Both Garland and Sexton made more effort to get him the ball, and quite frankly I think Beilein's system made him too much of spot up shooter, especially when the guards weren't finding spot up shooters. Bickerstaff played more pick and roll and drive and kick ball, which is exactly what they should have been playing the whole time, and it led to more opportunities for Nance and Love on the perimeter along with Cedi, and the pick and roll led to more dunks by Drummond and TT.

We really don't know if Bickerstaff is any good yet, but it seems obvious that they would rather play for him and are willing to put effort out for him. Defense was even better despite him being the def coordinator. I think Beilein was the opposite of Ty Lue in the sense that Ty prioritized vets over kids and Beilein didn't do enough for his vets.(prob didn't know how) Bickerstaff is a communicator so I think he is better suited to walk that line.

He is also more willing to play weird lineups and experiment to get everyone the minutes they deserve. No doubt the vets loved that 3 big lineup because they were always smiling about it and laughing about it being effective. Him playing Tristan to close out games also probably gained him some respect instead of just indulging Drummond. I love that he rewards playing the right way, and I hope that wasn't lost on Drummond or the kids.

The more I think about it, the more sympathy I have for Kevin. A lot of Veterans get a reputation for “being OK with losing” if they’re good soldiers and don’t cause stinks on losing teams. And those who get sick of it and demand trades, etc, are called disloyal. All things considered, he’s done it right. But the max contract helps I’m sure.

I wonder if the Cavs could use Love’s passing ability more.

Watching Jokic do it gives me so much fan envy.

Did you check him out on JJ Reddicks podcast a few weeks ago? It's worth listening to. He was talking about how hard it is to lose. How he has had to adjust his expectations.

It is a bit of a reality check. I mean even when he was in Minny, the league was not as good. The west is even tougher and all teams shoot better than that now.

He does believe in Bickerstaff, and I think Collin playing a more team game the 2nd half of the season has brought Kevin around on him. He had good things to say about Darius too.

I was listening to a podcast with Chris Fedor and Hayden Grove recently about the Cavs draft. Fedor made a few key points, for those who haven't heard it.

- Some in the Cavs org consider Porter a 2 and not a 3, which would make it less likely the Cavs would draft a guard and more likely they take a wing. Fedor thinks that unless Ball or Edwards drops to 5 the Cavs will not be taking a guard.

- Toppin is "firmly on the radar" and might be the BPA at #5. Fedor sees him as a high floor, low ceiling guy considering his age and skill set. Fedor would rather see the Cavs pass on Toppin and "swing for the fences".

- The Cavs argument for taking Toppin, besides the general argument that bad teams should take the best player regardless of position, is that Toppin would be a replacement for Love (getting back to the thread topic). Fedor has been led to believe that Love will not play in back-to-back games this year which would limit him to 55-60 games.

- Fedor estimated the chances of Thompson returning this year at 50% and the chances of the Cavs extending Drummond beyond this season at 50%. So there's a decent chance both TT and Dre will be gone after this season leaving the Cavs very thin on the front line (with Zizic already gone). So the argument for drafting a big would be that there would be some opportunity to play immediately due to Love's situation and it would possibly fill a huge need down the road.

- Okongwu is another possibility but he is seen as being on the lower end of Tier 2, which would put him a little lower than #5. He's a great kid based on what his college coach says and Fedor compared him to Thompson. He said "Big O" is not as skilled as Bam Adebayo so he's not sure that comparison works. Okongwu does not shoot 3's and there is concern about his offensive game and whether he will fit the profile of a "modern big" due to his lack of perimeter skills.

My comment:

Drummond has no perimeter skills, either, so if the Cavs want a center that shoots 3's they should not extend him. If they're OK with him at center going forward then they won't take Big O.

Drafting a guard makes no sense to me whatsoever. Not only is TT a free agent right now but Dre may be gone after this season. And after another year Love's contract might be easier to move (assuming he's playing well) because it's one less year and $30 million less commitment for the acquiring team. I'm sure one reason they plan on not playing him in back-to-backs is to try and keep him healthy and productive for trade purposes. We could lose TT, Dre, and Love in the next year or two.

That's why I'm not a big fan of drafting a wing. We have Windler and Cedi. Nance played well at the 3 last year and the big lineup of Dre or TT at center, Love at the 4 and Nance at the 3 was our best lineup. So we have Nance, Windler, and Cedi not to mention Porter who can also play the 3 in a small lineup.

It seems like Toppin or Okongwu make the most sense unless the Cavs have already made up their minds to commit to Drummond long term and are sure he will go along. Even then they would need a 4 to spell Love immediately and replace him when he goes.

Did they have any comment on Avdija? Maybe they assumed he wouldn't make it to five. It looks like the takeaway from this is the cavs would go Toppin in this scenario. Personally i think we still gotta take BPA and let the chips fall. I actually have no idea who that is from looking at all these guys. Could it be Okoro? Halliburton? I'm afraid Toppin is just going to be a complete mess defensively. From what i have seen his lateral movement is slow. I tend to lean towards Okongwu. I think he's already there defensively and he can improve offensively. I can see the pick could go in many different directions and I won't complain about any of them,,,hopefully they take the right guy.

I'll be shocked, if the Cavs draft Toppin. While I wanted Toppin at the beginning I'm leaning towards Okoro. I rather take Okongwu over Toppin, who I was high on for awhile too. This team has been bad since we won the title;we need players that can defend and Toppin doesn't provide it at all....imo

This team needs defenders like Okongwu, Okoro, Deni or Vassell.
