Not sure why there is talking of a buyout this year. His value is veteran leadership, familiarity with the organization, shooting and rebounding with the second unit. Yes he’s overpaid, but why move an important part this year when the playoff are very achievable for this team, and maybe a second round birth with how they are playing.
Ride this out. Don’t start buying out a guy that’s healthy and contributing in more ways than one.

There will never be a Kevin Love buyout in Cleveland. Any talk is wishful thinking of struggling contenders like the Lakers trying to stir up shit.

The Cavs have been great about maximizing their assets. Kevin Love will either be used in a trade for his salary, or the Cavs will simply keep him here for his production, mentorship and leadership. He is a great fit off the bench. Next season his contract decreases to 28.9million and he will be expiring. He is much more likely to be traded at any point beginning this summer through next years deadline Until then the Cavs will simply use him to help win games! They will only trade him if they feel its a trade that makes the team better or positions them to make a subsequent move by delivering assets or maybe switching him into two different contracts. He may be bought out eventually by whatever team we trade him to but the Cavs arent going to just let Love walk out the door because he gives up a couple million bucks, and i dont think he is interested in giving up any money and is in no hurry to leave. He's comfortable here

I think Love will get in because of his involvement in one of the best NBA Finals of all time and he’s been in the public consciousness more than a Sikma was.

I’m unfortunately old enough to recall Sikma, and it’s a good comparison as far as profile and numbers when I look, but he kind of plied his trade in obscurity out in the PST back when the NBA Finals were tape-delayed. I’d see him a few times a year, usually in the all star game. I assume beat writers from the East Coast were the main guys creating stars back then.

Also, iirc, one of the few NBA guys to come from a D 3 school, so didn’t come into league with much name recognition.
I always wondered what would have happened if his name was Richard and they had to print 'Sikma, Dick' in every box score.

He’s so physically over the hill. So stiff.

Bad match up for him tonight.
The worst.

However, when you know you're going against a smart team that has incredible spacing, chasing the shooters off the perimeter one by one will not work. No team has the legs for that kind of endless reacting. You need a proper defensive scheme, and the Cavs didn't have one against the Jazz.

Oh, let me correct myself - there was a scheme to start the game. It was called "Lauri on Mitchell".

Interesting insight from Love (and Frye) how the LeBron era teams never cared much about losing regular season games, and had lots of soap opera storyline drama, but that those were the best and most fun times of life:

Love being tossed overboard by the US team now feels like years ago. Plenty of ill will from all quarters to boot!
Just having NBA relevance is a Great comeback.
Love has been great. Even his defense is solid. Overpaid sure. But he has been invaluable off the bench.

Everyone assumes after Love's contract is up he will sign on elsewhere at the vet min or other lesser amount with a contender, but he seems comfortable in Cleveland, and that contender could be the Cavs.

I think he goes out west

Am I the only one that thinks he will retire

Love can actually get a little better offensively. He's only 4-for-16 on corners 3's, which puts him in the bottom 1% among bigs. But on non-corner 3's he's hitting 40%, which puts him in the 85th percentile. For some reason he's missing his corner 3's, although he's averaging just under one per game.

I was hoping he would get off to a strong start (he has) and the Cavs could move him to a "contender" who had a season-ending injury to a power forward. For example, the Bulls have only one player on their roster listed as a "power forward"; Patrick Williams, 6'7", 215", and he's out for another 3-5 months. He's not really a power forward, either.

But the Cavs' surprising start along with the fact that it's unlikely to find a team that could trade a big salary to the Cavs without hurting their team and also having to pay Love next year makes it extremely unlikely IMO that any deal is possible. It would take a perfect storm of circumstances which would probably include season-ending injuries to key Cavs players that would remove them from playoff contention.

No contender can trade for Love's contract. The only way he can find his way there if he accepts a buyout. But Love isn't interested in that, he's fine being here.

And I am fine with him here until next years deadline or just run out his contract.
Just keep limiting his mins. Give him a night off here and there
