This is certainly true and it's a coachable issue. When the bigs go in to challenge in the paint the other players surrounding need to survey the area and get into position to box out as a group. This is teachable, they can do drills to get the idea in people's heads. Based on the first 2 games I have serious doubts that this is something BB or his staff have even thought about, let alone tried doing.Rebounding often suffers when you have shot blockers. When they challenge shots from penetrating opponents, they are out of rebound position. Obviously, there are ways for the other players to hustle into rebound position, but when and how to do this is tricky... especially for in experienced players.
There's also a balance between crashing the boards and having defenders guarding against players leaking out for the long pass fast break. There need to be assignments based on where players are on the floor when the shot goes up. Guys in the paint box out and rebound as a group, guys out on the perimeter get back against the break.
Our team discipline in these areas is very poor. Coaching is the culprit on stuff like this.
