Colangelo knows better.

Players, and their union, will stick with each other. They may call a guy out in private, but in public they stick together.

This has been the case since forever.

By taking it public he only pissed off the players. Its the same reason Koby doesn't call Love a bum, even if he deserves it.

Because the rest of the players in the NBA will black-list the Cavs until the FO changes.

But Colangelo, and to some extent Count Dooku, are old, about to retire, and don't give a shit. Someone else's mess to clean up in 2024.
So an old fart who does’t give a shit calls out a guy for not giving a shit.

As far as free agency goes - if the Cavaliers offer a better-than-average players more money than any other team (a year or two down the road) that player might take it. LeBron came back to Cleveland because it was good for his brand despite his distaste for Gilbert (who had to fly to Miami and kiss the ring, billionaire or no).

I was just wondering whether players/staff on the Olympic team truly see this situation the same way a few current and retired players do.

Or, for that matter, whether Kevin's CLE teammates share Colangelo's disappointment...

Nice metaphor KL - what the hell does that even mean? Nobody gets a receipt for throwing fire in the first place.

"Excellent tossing of that match sir. Here's your receipt."

OK, I'm going with the glass half full approach. I think Love is a proud guy at the end of the day who cares about being respected by other players, coaches, and fans. This episode with Olympic team had to be very embarassing. They didn't reach out to him - he called and asked to be on the team. After a few practices and lead-up scrimmages it became clear he wasn't anywhere close to being able to contribute and he wisely begged off before being cut. Then Coangelo came out and said he showed up out of shape and unprepared to compete. This has to be pretty embarassing.

So I'm thinking Love is going to take his preparations for this season seriously. He's not going to want to ride the bench and be kind of a joke - a guy making $30 million to dress up in a uniform and watch other guys play. He's going to want to salvage some respect and finish his career on a solid note. I could be wrong, but that's how I see it.

Love is still capable of having a 30-point, 14-rebound game like we saw against Boston on May 14. Or a 25-point game like we saw against Miami on May 1. What's more realistic is the 18/8/2 in 26 minutes against Portland on May 5. In his last five games Love was 19-for-37 on 3's (51.4%). It looked like he was getting more air under his 3's. He has a tendency to shoot them too flat.

If he gets in shape I can see him consistently playing 24 minutes with a line of 16/8/4. If Hartenstein doesn't return and Mobley spends some time at the 5 when Allen is down it would open up more minutes for Love.

I don't think Love wants to be a joke or an afterthought. This recent experience with the Olympic team had to be humiliating. He begged them for a tryout and when he showed up he was clearly out of his league. He was replaced by JaVale McGee.

I'm hoping that experience was a wakeup call. He doesn't want it repeated with the Cavaliers, where he ends up sitting the bench behind Mobley, Nance, and Wade. At this point he can no longer coast on his reputation and will have to earn his minutes. He has come to terms with the fact that he is no longer an elite player or even a 32-minute guy. But I think he wants to go out gracefully with his head high as a valuable contributor to a winning team. Maybe I'm wrong, but I expect him to come into this season on a mission.

I have to agree, I Think the Olympic debacle has to be a wake-up call for Love and how he sees the last few years of his career. He has to make some hard choices on how it plays out and what he's willing and able to do. I think he'll make every effort to redeem himself but then the question becomes, what is he physically able to do, and is he mentally willing to do what it takes?

I think it is time for him to retire.

Eminem song called No Love. Kevin is using a line from Lil Wayne on the track.

Uh, I think about more than I forget
But I don't go around fire expectin' not to sweat

Do players even like Love? Are we certain they’re on his side?

The better question is do they respect him enough to care? If I was a player I would probably be confused as to why a guy who barely played basketball the past 2 seasons is opting to play for free lol.

If his lack of conditioning was that evident then I'm not sure they would be however I also don't see them siding with Jerry going public. I certainly am not subscribing to the notion that players would re-consider joining Team USA in the future because of how Kevin Love was treated.

I dont think Kevin gives a rats ass. ?Hes got 60 mil coming to him. Some guys gradually fall off and others fall off a cliff. It is what it is. All those finals are super stressful and not every player is Lebron mentally. I honestly just think hes tired. The second he resigned with us after LeBron left I knew he didnt care about winning anymore.
