Assuming you're correct, the Cavaliers are at $89M. Sending Cedi for an expiring takes them to $80M. Allen's cap hold is $9M. A first round pick is $7M. That takes them to $96M. That puts them at ~$16M in space. But that means you're resigning *none* of the guys on your team. It also means the Cleveland Cavaliers, whose best free agent signing in franchise history is corpse of Larry Hughes, are banking on that changing.
What guys would you be worried about not re-signing? We’d certainly have no limitation to re-signing Allen or doing long term deals eventually for any of the 2018-2020 draft picks.

Additionally, the Cavs are already looking at moving off of Cedi, so if they don’t sign a targeted free agency for a deal starting at 16M, they just use that space for a few reclamation projects or as a dumping spot for a team willing to give up a pick to clear their own space.

Don't see the downside to it

I'm not worried about losing any of the free agents, but yall are doing a lot of assuming that someone will take Cedi without sending anything back...

If what I just read is accurate, Allen's cap hold is almost $12M (300% of current salary, if under the average NBA salary, 250% if above average salary), not the $9M that was mentioned.

over under on Love and games played in a Cavaliers uniform by the end of his contract.. I think I'll set it at 100.
Tempting to take the over, I mean, rest of this year, then two full seasons following under contract.. surely he can get 11 games before getting hurt again this year and 45/per over the next two.

surly...

He probably gets trades sometime his final year, hurt half of the year next year, then final year he plays 20 games to be featured to a contender that wants him for his shooting and rebounding from the pf position. We are a playoff team by then, but still collecting assets to take the next and final leap into contender, Love could give us a small asset at that point.

I take the under.

Yes his cap hold will be 300% of his current salary. The Cavs would also have to just let Drummond walk, dump Cedi (or Prince's) contract, and not bring back Dotson, Wade, or McGee. Anything is possible but after acquiring Allen and Prince they would have to thread a needle to create a ton of space.

On another note it looks like JR's buyout is still on the Cavs books for one more season ($1.5 mil). Apparently they must've amnestied the last season guarantee on his contract. I remember we all thought we were going to get something good out of that since he could've been traded for like a $20 mil player and his buyout was like $5 mil.
