The trade for Rubio got me thinking. At this juncture, the only reason for a veteran to be taking up a roster spot is either a) is really fucking good at basketball (LOL), b) he serves as a mentor or otherwise sets a good example for our young core, or c) it is impossible to get his ass outta here.
The sooner we buy him out, the more cap space we can salvage. Come the trade deadline, teams have already blown their wads for that year and can only offer the prorated vet min. Now is the time, while teams are flush with cap space and there will inevitably be some teams that whiff on their FA wishlist and may be willing to sign Kevin to something higher than the vet min.
