Kawhi and love on the clippers!?

As a basketball fan I would love to see it. (no pun intended), I just not sure if the Clippers want that or what is available to make that trade happen.

This might me the only way I could give the slightest rats shit about LA basketball..I’m sure silver and his puppets know this would make a great “battle of LA”. GO CLIPPERS!

Love Kev but why did we extend him. Gilbert needs to stay the fuck out of front office
They extended him because he wanted to be here and we thought he was useful on the court for the team as a whole—specifically to develop our youth.

The extension also bought us time to find the right deal to get an asset for him.

It’s a lot of money, but it’s not like Cleveland has free agents beating down the door here anyway.

If we find the right deal, we pounce. If we don’t, he stays the length of his contract as a strong veteran presence and we never once miss that money.

And this was Koby, and it was probably a prudent move. Quite an accusation jumping on Dan aggressively.

C’mon, you can do better than that.

I would trade Love to the Clippers for Gallinari, whose contract is much more reasonable, and either SGA or the Miami unprotected 1st round pick in 2021. Preferably, we would find a third team that wants Gallinari.

Supposedly Boston is also interested in Love and, with Kyrie & Horford leaving, they may be panicking. The Celtics have three firsts this year as well as Memphis’ 2020 1st, which is top 6 protected and becomes unprotected in 2021. That’s a very attractive pick.

Other teams that could be interested in Love are Portland, Utah, OKC, & Houston. Notice many teams are in the West, which is now WIDE open.

People need to back off Love with the extension/contract complaints...no he's not the most exciting player and he's had some tough moments performance wise..I feel he's been mistreated at times with some of his former teammates(yeah LBJ included)but he's not been a negative influence or threatened to leave, yada yada..
Been a solid player who helped the Cavs win.

Exactly. By extending Love they were able to preserve him as an asset. He would have been out on the free agency market this summer and we could be looking at him walking for nothing.

There will be money that was cleared for a max player and teams being left out from getting one this summer. Yes Love will be 31 but some teams will see value in a star with multiple years left on his contract. Trading for Love at 30 million a year could be alot less risky than overpaying one or two player that aren't from that first or second tier of free agents.

Interesting article from Terry Pluto on the possibility of Love going to New Orleans for the #4 pick with other pieces involved:

If the Cavs were to do this, here’s hoping they don’t do something CRAZY, like offering the 4th & 5th picks to New York for the 3rd pick. I would actually trade down with one or both picks.

Giving love that big extension is only justified if we’re able to trade him. Which could be very difficult.

No. Resigning KLove was a business decision not a basketball one. For the common fan KLove is a big name and he sells tickets. Ownership and Front Office knew we wouldn't be contending once LBJ left despite that they said. But locking in KLove being able to flip or not he still puts butts in the seat cause of his name.

At the end of the day this is still a business and keeping him was the right move short term. Even if they are unable to deal him its not hurting us because FA don't come to CLE and he has name value for the average fan.

Nah. I think if it helps young players grow, it's a plus.

But if the Cavs get an offer they can't refuse, I understand trading him. But I don't want to trade him for pennies on the dollar. I think he can be a very productive player for at least two more seasons.

Having a productive vet is worth a lot to a young team, especially a guy with All-Star and Championship experience. I love having Love.
Granted, I'd love to find a guy that can grow into replacing Love long term - like a Grant Williams. But it'd be best to keep Love for the season.

But Love may be worth the most after some teams with cap space strike out on free agents and need a name to show their fan base.

Of course if he is healthy and productive going into February, he'll be in rumors.

The Cavs have a lot of tradeable assets in ending contracts that can clear cap space for teams AND help with playoff pushes potentially (Tristan, Delly, Knight, Henson, etc).

What's uniquely hilarious about SGA vs Sexton, and that whole discussion, is the fact that the two of them are actually a perfect backcourt pairing.

I agree that SGA and Sexton would be a great backward pairing. That said, I don’t believe the clippers would be willing to trade him. You have to inquire obviously.

Boston comes to mind here....

Love would fit in well with the Celtics young core and not take minutes away from any of their promising players. The Celtics should actually try to get rid of Hayward and reset their culture before free agency. Rozier said he didn't want to come back if Hayward and Kyrie were there. I wouldn't risk Rozier playing on the qualifying offer or getting a offer sheet that is hard to match.

They have 3 picks in this year's draft and the Memphis pick next year. They might be able to build a better team by moving some of those assets for Love or another star now then going after their needs in free agency.

If the Celtics trade for Love they could still have a max slot. They would have to not resign Horford. It would have to be Hayward for Love. Then they need Rozier to sit tight and not sign a offer sheet so they can take advantage of his 9 million cap hold.
