I know it’s a dig at RJ & Channing, but, c’mon, cage that bird, Kevin. Either that or learn to like the bench press.
While I agree, the dude’s a basketball player.

Kevin Durant probably can’t bench 150 lbs and he’s still one of the best on the court.

Yes, but KD & Love are very different players too. One thrives largely because of his crazy length & terrific shooting for a perimeter player. The other is a stretch-4 that is a below average athlete and gets by on smarts, fundamentals, & finesse

Yeah, a stretch four who has tried to thin himself out to play more on the perimeter and make an effort to be more able to switch defensively. He does a ton of core work.

I’m not going to get on Kevin Love about his body. I think the dude has worked very hard to try to fit the new NBA game.

Remember, he entered the league as a big doughy undersized center with slow feet and still-developing range.

That’s very true. To Love’s credit, he did re-make his body and get himself in much better shape than when he was at UCLA and he first entered the NBA.

Analysis of bare-chested Kevin Love photos aside...

With everything that's happened in the past week-plus, I still don't see Love going anywhere until the trade deadline. The West is up for grabs, but I think they'll wait to see how things shake out the first few months. Portland's signing of Whiteside just seems to perfectly set up a trade deadline move if Nurkic is healthy by then.

Love has the chest of a 16 year old boy...not sure I’d be showing that off there, Kev. Idk, with all the money these NBA players make, and all the resources available to them, they have no excuse for not being in top physical condition.

Seems like Kevin may be taking a page from the Joe Thomas playbook. Cutting weight during the offseason to save wear and tear on the joints, then put some back on to get to his ideal playing weight. Probably also working his core hard to strengthen his back, etc..

I don't really have a problem with that at his age.

Bulk is not Kevin's friend.

Finesse = being lean.

Besides, rebounding is all legs and ass. Kevin has plenty of both.

The answer still hasn’t changed. While it’s not wise to use the never term in this ever-changing league, the Cavs don’t want to trade Love. No, there aren’t any untouchables on this roster. Prized rookie Darius Garland would be the closest to that. If the Cavs are blown away by a Love offer and receive the package that meets their demands then, of course, they would consider it. It would be foolish not to. According to sources, the Cavs would want some combination of young players and draft picks. Not one or the other. Both.
Generally, quoted material should be quoted in your post.

Also, this was already posted.

I’m sure the media would be told the Cavaliers don’t want to trade Kevin Love.

It’s in their best interest to spread that stance. Likewise, I believe they are content keeping him around until the right offer presents itself. He’s a good teammate and influence on the court for the rookies.

He doesn’t need traded just for the sake of it, even though I hope it happens sooner rather than later. Being on a longer contract affords us the patience to take him to the deadline or even next offseason waiting for the right offer.

Unlikely scenario, Garland busts onto the scene as an All-Star immediately and the Cavs have two All-Star caliber players with the rest of the NBA.

That would be my only reason to keep Love.

Interesting story over on Reddit re: Kevin Love's value. IMO, this was another miscalculation by the FO like the JR contract. The plan was to sign Kevin to an extension which would drive up his perceived value because he would be locked into a long term contract. The problem is he has spent the last two years getting exposed as one way player in a position now manned by wings. His ceiling to a contender (presumably his market) is at most as a third option who may have to play limited minutes if said contender makes it to the Conference Finals or beyond.

Here's to hopping the likes of Miami or Minny get desperate enough...

Now more than ever, teams value salary cap flexibility. We recently saw, with the Paul-Westbrook trade, what the market is for players that are on the plus side of 30 and who are signed a long-term contracts...and it ain’t good!

The market for Westbrook, a guy who averaged a triple double the last three seasons, was so depressed that OKC traded him for a a couple of draft picks and a guy that has perhaps the worst contract in the NBA. Ironically, the Thunder will now have to attach draft picks to Chris Paul to have any hopes of trading him.

The Cavs may have thought they were doing a good thing for the franchise in signing Kevin Love to that long-term contract, but the moment he signed it, his value went down. The Cavs may not like the offers they are getting for Kevin Love, but you can’t turn chicken sh!t into chicken salad...and that contract is absolutely the former.

Whether we hold onto Love for another week, another month, or another year, his value is only likely to go down further. That’s until he’s an expiring contract (that cap flexibility thing) , when his value will go back up, but that’s still a whopping three years away.

The Cavs are in a catch-22 with Love. They want to prove he’s healthy in an effort to rehab his trade value. However, they don’t want to play him too much because he will hurt their chances of tanking and, if they win too much, they forfeit their first round pick to New Orleans. They have to pay him $30 million a year regardless and, if he doesn’t play, he is just a depreciating asset, literally rotting away on our bench.

The Cavs can wait it out and Love isn't going to become disgruntled. He helps us develop our young talent in the mean time. I think teams that called the Cavs were looking for a deal on Love once better choices got moved. His value will go up when a team looks to make a jump and Love plays a decent amount of the first half of the season.

I can see certain teams deciding to use assets to get a player like Love on a longer contract and know he is locked up for all or a good portion of their contending window. Alot of teams gave up assets for players and lost them in free agency this summer. Flexibility is great when teams are making the choices with who they are keeping but when players are making the choices for them, it makes it that much harder to build a contender.

Kevin Love provides real organizational value/. You literally have to spend your cap room on SOMEBODY. And Love's ceiling in terms of a trade value piece was and still is way higher than anything else you're signing for that money.

All it takes is 2-3 healthy months of an efficient 19-12-4 on 40% from 3 and a playoff team either 1. Thinking they're 1 move away from being title contenders or 2. getting desperate to fix their situation. He's also a great locker room guy who understands the sacrifice necessary.

Kevin Love's contract isn't even that bad. In a league where you have John Wall, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, etc making 38/40/42/45/47 million increasing every year.

Kevin Love is making 29 million dollars this year. then 31/31/29 for the rest of his deal. Hassan Whiteside is making like 25 million dollars this year, for comparison. Kevin is only turning 31. He will only be 34 at the end of his contract. 34 is not that old--it may be close to the end of a guy like Love's career

His contract simply is not some albatross anchor tearing down our franchise. We're rebuilding anyway and he's a valuable cultural piece and means something to this fanbase.

Obviously his tendency to end up with nagging injuries on a consistent basis is the worst part of his value. But in an era of load management and minute restrictions and taking back-to-backs off, he should be fine. Aside from when Olynyk tore his shoulder apart and the one game he lost to concussion in the Finals, Love has been available for the playoffs 3 of the 4 years we went to the Finals. That's really what teams are trading for. He's a knockdown stretch big, he's an elite rebounder on both ends, he is a good passer, he's a Champion.

The Cavs have 0 reason to have to trade Kevin Love. If we can get a good value package, then sure. If not, I'm fine with waiting out. I don't anticipate some kind of free-fall in terms of ability/production over the next 3-4 seasons. If nobody wants him now, I guarantee someone will want him at the end of his contract in the last 1-2 years and eventually we will be able to get SOME value for him. If in the meantime he gives our two young (hopefully)stud guards a bunch of floor spacing/lessons on how to be a pro, then so be it.

I don't think the Love contract was a mistake at all. Use him the best way possible for our team. No need to try to showcase him. Just let him be a good leader, and do his thing. Don't play him in back-to-backs. Keep him around 28-30 minutes a night. Practice load management liberally.
