What guys would you be worried about not re-signing? We’d certainly have no limitation to re-signing Allen or doing long term deals eventually for any of the 2018-2020 draft picks.Assuming you're correct, the Cavaliers are at $89M. Sending Cedi for an expiring takes them to $80M. Allen's cap hold is $9M. A first round pick is $7M. That takes them to $96M. That puts them at ~$16M in space. But that means you're resigning *none* of the guys on your team. It also means the Cleveland Cavaliers, whose best free agent signing in franchise history is corpse of Larry Hughes, are banking on that changing.
Additionally, the Cavs are already looking at moving off of Cedi, so if they don’t sign a targeted free agency for a deal starting at 16M, they just use that space for a few reclamation projects or as a dumping spot for a team willing to give up a pick to clear their own space.
Don't see the downside to it
