Kevin Love is just a baller. Period. I remember this with Tracy McGrady and Tim Thomas... Dudes are just talented and the game comes so natural and easy... McGrady could kick it into stardom and Thomas was content being lazy... But all the gifts and talents were there...

Same with Love. He has absolutely zero desire to be a hall of famer or all time great... None at all... But all the tools are there if he had wanted to be...

This makes so much sense. It's a shame that fire wasn't there with Lebron. He needed to demand the ball more. I remember he did a few games and you saw flashes.

I think we are a deep team with usable player but there are major holes in the talent level. Sexton could probably be a second best player on a good team. Depending on the make up of a team Allen, Nance, and Garland could all be #4 or #5 type starters. The rest of the roster is a bunch of #8 or #9 type rotation players. I don't know what Love is at this point since he can barely get on the floor.
Maybe like Toronto before they got Kawhi Leonard?

He has all the tools other than athleticism, skin color, hair line, black hair, wingspan, muscles, running form, dribbling ability and last but not least, swag.

He has a nice looking shooting form though, i'll give him that.

Those are the ones that tend to last tho. In contrast to say an Amare Stoudemire who relied on athleticism..

Nah, I get what you are saying.

I've watched pretty much all of the Denver games this year. And about 30% of the time, Jokic looks about as interested in playing basketball as one would be a root canal. I know what the stats say at the end of his games, the advanced and all of that, but I promise he cruises through at least 1/3 of the time he is on the court.

But when he decides to take over, its amazing to see him impact the game seemingly as effortlessly but undeniably with his mind and just pure skill.

Sabonis was the same way. He was like 40 yrs old in that 2000 playoff run that ended with the refs sending the Lakers to the finals. I just remember how he embarrassed Garnett and the Twolves in the first round that year. He played like 30+ mins but actually only crossed half court 50% of the time on offense. He made the ball move with outlet passes and when he finally made it to the 3pt line in the offense, he would carve the Twolve D up from the high post and get their offense moving again if they had a few ISO possessions before that.

Kevin Love is not Jokic or Arveydas Sabonis, but because so much of the league is low-IQ now, even 20-30% Love engagement early in a game can not only impact in that moment, but can set the tone for the rest of the game. He still has just enough physical ability to compliment his brain.

This is what will help Rondo propel the Clippers past the Lakers if they meet early in the playoffs, even if Rondo can really only give 20 mins a night.

I remember Derrick Coleman, if that dude had motivation would have been a hof

Love seemed to be more interested in playing a team game with passing and defense instead of putting up every shot he could. Refreshing to see. I'd forgotten what a good all around player he could be when he puts his mind to it.

Next year, and possibly at the end of this season, he'll be on the floor with Sexton, Garland, and Allen - guys who can score. Love won't need to take as many shots as when he was out there with TT, Cedi, Delly - guys who you don't want taking the shot. He can be more of a passer and floor spacer and only take the good shots that come his way in the flow of the offense. He'll make the offense work and grab a lot of defensive rebounds.

There was one play against San Antonio when Sexton had the ball in the corner, blew by his man on a baseline drive and instead of shooting the floater lobbed it to Love coming down the lane for an easy bucket. I don't know if I've ever seen Love receiving a lob from Sexton before, but it looked really good.

if he wasn't on those Nets teams that the Cavs always had to spank in the first round, I'd have been a bigger DC fan growing up. He really could do just about anything he wanted.. so long as he wanted.

Tom Waits nails Love down pretty well in Big in Japan:

He’s got the style but not the grace
He’s got the clothes he’s got the face
He’s got the bread but not the butter
He’s got the window but not the shutter

He’s got the house but not the deed
He’s got the horn but not the reed
He’s got the cards but not the luck
He’s got the wheel but not the truck

He’s got the moon, He’s got the cheese
He got the whole damn nation on their knees
He’s got the rooster, He’s got the crow
He got the ebb but not the flow

He got the powder but not the gun
He got the dog but not the bun
He got the clouds but not the sky
He got the stripes but not the tie

He got the sizzle but not the steak
He got the boat but not the lake
He got the sheets but not the bed
He got the jam but not the bread

Feel like @Randolphkeys @The Human Q-Tip @WellYouNeednt all know Waits
