add Darius Garland to that. DG >>>>>>>> their guards.
I was just referring to us taking Mobley before their selection -- forcing them to take their backup option in Giddey. Then, them taking Dieng and Williams this year, leaving us with our backup option in Agbaji.

Yeah. Just sucks.... really would have loved one of those two.

Reflecting on draft day on the morning after, I have to say I am pretty disappointed. Not "Jump off the bridge" , but just non plussed.

I have gone back and watched film, examined game stats, watched pre draft analysis and so on.. What I see is a pretty good, and fairly long guard. Smooth triple, decent floater ( which the cavs apparently think is necessary) and can finish in traffic. But I think I see that same thing in Branham, but three years younger, and better playmaking.. Could be Branham pissed them off by not working out.who knows..

But achai's our guy now, so I hope he works out.

The second rounders are long ass shots so who am I to critique.. but I really do not understand Diop vs Liddell.. Lidell has a shot to help us in an area of need.. Where the hell is Diop going to find minites?

Isaiah, well cheap contract to play with his brother.. last guy no idea..

I think if anything this is a window into the remainder of the off season.

Honestly, the moves we have made are consistent with a LeBron return narrative, which is not my favorite idea. But we have the assets to do the trade..

Perhaps my better self is hopeful it means we intend to buy our starting 3 , through trade or free agency.. One result of these other teams drafting rookie wings, is that vet threes might be more expendable.. Maybe we are thinking we can finagle Zion, or saikam, or Reddish or even Durant after Brooklyn implodes.. it boils down to translating the salary tied up in Sexton, LeVert, Love, Dean, and or Osman into more constructive assets..

So, as I set fire to my grass hut on Eason Island, and tie on to my coconut raft, I am crossing my fingers, rooting for Guardians and waiting for the next thing..

I'm still kind of shocked they were able to trade for 11 without having to give up 12. I guess I shouldn't be -- they had such a treasure chest of assets -- but more so, I don't recall a team taking 3 players in one lottery. Has this ever happened?

My immediate reaction was that they probably just overwhelmed the Knicks with a ridiculously good offer that the Cavs couldn't compete with. But 3 meh future firsts that are all lottery protected and some may never convey? From a value perspective, IMO 14+39+49 is a stronger offer.

I'm trying to think of possible scenario's where that might play out but I don't think teams want to give up productive wings for our
excess,,,stuff. I really think our best asset was pick 14...Okoro/Osman/Sexton what are those guys worth?
Maybe we could pry Harrison Barnes from Sacto?

I'm starting to think the front office is operating under some extreme when the league zigs we zag mentality. The league is going wing heavy so Koby wants to go guard and big heavy.

They did stumble into an advantage with Markkanen at SF. I wonder if they think they can find some advantage of a 3 guard lineup. That may be misguided but a 3 big lineup might have given them some confidence to lean in on going against the grain of what the NBA is trending with.

I guess it depends on our trading partner(s) Where is their depth ? Hopefully at the wing. I think Sexton has value and someone has value. Cedi will be an expiring and is ok off the bench. Okoro could be in play with our selection last night. I think it is too early to move Love

I really don't think Agbaji was the back, I think he was the target.. The logic of Agbaji is fit and readiness.. high character guy, only new guy that has actually won a national championship..

None of the other guys really fit that logic.. you had Eason, you had Branham, you chose Agbaji.. neither Williams nor Diengbfit that logic at all.

Not sure I agree with it.. But it's what they did.. let's hope Okoro takes a jump, Windler suddenly becomes healthy, and Stevens takes another step..

I’m going to revisit a point I made as last year was ending. There was lots of support for “I hope we miss the playoffs so we can keep our lottery pick”. I argued against that and this draft result is why. This was not a great draft class. Lots and lots of mediocre and very little reason to think we were finding a key piece in it at 14. I’m not excited about Agbaji, but I’m not sure who was available at that time that looked a lot better. It was simply not a great position to be in. Now we have no first rounder next year and no playoff experience either. We could have had the invaluable and clarifying experience of a playoff series, another year to clarify who we want from our current roster, and had a very similar pick next year.

The outlook for this team is no different today than it was two days ago. Darius, Mobley, Allen, probably Sexton, LeVert, maybe Rubio, Lauri, Love etc and they’re rolling forward. Plug in a 3 and D guy who has no pressure and can help now.
Significant internal growth and maybe another move to come. Very bright future.
I wanted more length and ability to defend long athletic wings with this pick, so my initial reaction was disappointment just like the majority of fans at this site.

But I also wanted 3 point shooting as an equally high priority. For me the question is this... was there any 6'8" wing player in this draft who could give us the same upside potential for perimeter shooting as Agbaji?

To the best of my knowledge that player didn't exist in this draft. All the taller/longer wings were likely worse as perimeter shooters. So now we're still left with a void when it comes to having an athletic wing player who can defend against the Jason Tatum /Jalen Brown/ Andrew Wiggins types.

The 6'8" athletic prototype who can shoot, create, and defend seems to be missing on our roster, so who is out there who may become available in the next year or so? Who might Altman be thinking about that could fill that gap? Could it be... <in Church Lady Voice>...Lebron????

Take it FWIW but Gansey was on the radio this morning and he inferred that the Cavs are getting a LOT of calls from potential trade partners.

Agree with much you said. I still can’t figure out why Cam Reddish is even mentioned. He sucks

Apparently we tried to get 11. But OKC threw 3 future firsts at the Knicks. So I guess at least Altman tried.

Mostly to show I have no idea what they are thinking for this role. I think there are quite a few ways to snare a pro starter 3. They are mostly expensive but it really depends on what you are after. Perhaps we dont need prime Butler or Leonard, maybe we think we can dust off someone that has fallen a bit and that is good enough or pick up a older vet like Chicago did. OR maybe we think we can snare a disgruntled Durant. Who knows.

My own worry is that they are playing into a Lebron Scenario, of which i am not particularly interested. But I will hope there is a better plan than that afoot. In any case, this draft did not catch our guy, so the tea leaves would support the starting small forward is a guy we trade /acquire.

Koby is playing 5D chess here. He's maneuvering the Cavs into a position where both Duran and Lebron will be trying to slide into our open SF spot.

I wonder how tied to Agbaji they are if Dieng was their primary target. Jalen Williams might have been their backup and Agbaji their third choice.

Maybe Agbaji could be the asset we attach to go after a SF.
