Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Gilbert should make himself GM..and put his ownership on the line...if Cavs lose he fires himself, and leaves town..WCW style.

And i am not that stressed about Billups "I would trade Love for Melo" .. If Dan says to Chauncey "Your directive is get us defense and two way Players" He wont go get Melo..

Billups is overall a very smart guy who is respected and knows Basketball. .

He knows basketball so well that we'd be counting on Gilbert to veto his trade ideas.

Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? Isn't your GM supposed to be talking the owner out of dumb trades?

YES THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE HOW IT WORKS

But maybe they will be a good team and Billups can also talk Gilbert out of bad ideas for new Quicken Loan mortgage products

Maybe Griffin defaulted on a series of Quicken loans for shitty investment properties while making a ton of bad suggestions for company rebranding strategies.

Jason lloyd had an interview with 92.3 today and here is a summary from the cavs reddit, summarized by SCMAD. -Trade talks haven't frozen but they are being run by Dan

-Chauncey is getting the job and he will be surrounded by experienced FO people

-He thinks Butler is more smoke than fire and that a PG trade is more realistic

-He doesn't think Griff's departure was about vision but rather Griff wanting more power and money. He said he thinks Dan and Griff essentially shared the same vision

-He thinks Chauncey's comments about Love for Melo were likely for TV and he said he would be very surprised if Love was traded for Melo

-He would be very surprised if Kyrie was traded

-LeBron's comments about getting a play maker were more directed at Gilbert than Griff

-This being the first year of the repeater tax for the Cavs will be very interesting. He mentioned that we didn't actually have to give up Andy V for Frye when we made that trade and that we gave a up a 1st to get Andy's contract off the books

-Mentioned how every new GM Dan has had has been given less and less power. Said this situation is somewhat similar to Ferry's situation

-Said something to the effect of LeBron isn't happy about this but he doesn't know how much it impacts his future decisions. Might be different if he was a FA in 10 days rather than 1 year

-Windy apparently reported that Griff found a team who would be willing to give up a lotto pick for Love (he thinks it's the Suns) when asked about this report Lloyd said he knew nothing about it but that a trade for a lottery pick doesn't make sense for Cavs but that he guesses it could be packaged later.I think the question caught him a bit off-guard and was awkward for him to answer because he hadn't heard about it yet. It was a strange non-answer

Sounds like a lot of speculation and no sources.

Windy also was saying on ESPN radio that "Griffin wanted to be taken care of" and paid at the higher end of GMs in the league (I believe he was one of the lowest).

To me that's not as big of a deal as we all initially thought. I don't particularly care for Gilbert, and the timing sucks, but I can see him thinking "yea we won a championship with a core of LeBron, Kyrie, & Love, but obtaining any/all of those three was not some masterstroke GM move"

-He thinks Chauncey's comments about Love for Melo were likely for TV.....

Absent some kind of evidence, that just sounds like wishful thinking/excuse making from Jason. And I usually like Jason's stuff.

....and he said he would be very surprised if Love was traded for Melo.

The concern isn't whether Chauncey would do the trade now. The concern is what is says about his talent evaluation period.

Windy just saying now that Griff wanted more money/power-meaning a exec position ..not the total factor but this is a large part..he mentioned Danny Ferry walking away because of issues over control.

Ferry couldn't keep LBJ- had to rape every trade and wouldn't give up anything.
Griff was adequate.
Im not torn up over any of these guys. None of them are geniuses.

Best deal in CAVS history was the deal with the Clips that got us Kyrie and didnt have anything to do with Griffin and everything to do with Gilbert's checkbook. Second best deal was the draft day trade of Roy Hinson for Dough Boy Daugherty. There was no GM.

Based on listening to Windy...

Chauncey and Lue very close. Would have dinner together during the finals on occasion. Spent day before Game 7 last year together. Also has indirectly worked for Dan when in Detroit as Chauncey was a spokesperson for one of Gilbert's companies.

Windy more than the other writers going all in on the report that Love was going to be traded to PHX for a lotto pick that WOULD BE SHOPPED AROUND. Sticking point was that nothing was in stone yet and that it would have been very risky to try and get Butler with that pick. Windy said Bulls looking for either 2 lotto picks or probably a lotto+starter.

To me, it seems like Griff's strategy may have had us in no man's land. Way too much to spend to acquire George, but not enough for Butler. The money is of course an issue for Griffin but it is far from the only reason, and after listening to Windy, I'm not really disturbed.
