Cavaliers' Notes
* The beginning of a 6 game, 12 day West coast road trip, the longest of the season....ugh.

* I put Damon Jones in the starting lineup, but I personally doubt he gets the start against Kobe. Look for Ira Newble or Luke Jackson (longshot) to get the nod.

* LeBron has posted at least 30 points, seven rebounds and five assists in each of the last seven games.

* Drew Gooden has posted five double doubles in his last eight games. He has a career-high tying seven offensive boards in each of the last two games.

* Last season, Z averaged 21.5 points on .615 shooting, 13 rebounds and one block against the Lakers.

* There's a good chance Anderson Varejao will make his season debut tonight against the Lakers at the Staples Center. Varejao, out all year after offseason shoulder surgery, has been cleared for practice for the last week and a half and is ready. Brown said before the team left the final decision will be made after this morning's shootaround.

``We'll talk about it on the flight and tomorrow morning,'' Brown said. ``He probably would be cleared to play. It is a discussion we'll have on the flight out.''

Lakers' notes
* The Lakers play tonight (Wednesday) in Portland, so hopefully Kobe is tired. :D

* Bryant poured in 45 points in Monday's 96-90 triumph over Indiana to become the first player since Wilt Chamberlain in November 1964 to score 45 points or more in four consecutive games.

Re: Cavaliers @ Lakers 10:30ET TNT

I'm submitting this real quick because I have been having 'puter issues. I will add some notes and trends via an "edit" shortly....

Comment away if you'd like though.

Plus, there are no previews up yet, and the Lakers play tonight, so their preview is for that game......there is a shortage of info..I'll get it up tonight or tomorrow morning...

I think we should start Snow, Lebron, Ira, Goober, and Z. Game plan should be to take it inside with Drew, Z and Lebron sharing the load. A big night for Z will mean a win for Cleveland.

Re: Cavaliers @ Lakers 10:30ET TNT

I want to see LeBron guard Kobe...

Re: Cavaliers @ Lakers 10:30ET TNT

Ira has caused Kobe some discomfort previously. Not because of his hounding defense or barrage of trash talk, but by simply injuring him. Has it come to this already?

Re: Cavaliers @ Lakers 10:30ET TNT

Kobe will guard LeBron, so LeBron should guard Kobe... It's time to take the training wheels off of LeBron at that end of the floor...

2. MATCHUP OF THE WEEK
LeBron James vs. Kobe Bryant – These two will face off Thursday night at the Staples Center in one of the most intriguing individual matchups the league will feature all season. With Larry Hughes injured, James will most likely guard Kobe – a major challenge for LeBron, who is more comfortable defending away from the ball and looking for steals in the passing lanes. Bryant looks forward to every challenge and will undoubtedly take his shots defending LeBron one-on-one. This is a basketball fan's delight: a matchup of two of the best basketball players – and athletes – on earth. Oh my.

Re: Cavaliers @ Lakers 10:30ET TNT

We must start Newble against the Lakers. They have a very big starting lineup. If Snow guards Kobe, old friend Smush will take Damon to the rack all night. I'm watching the Lakers/Blazers game right now (just started 2nd half). Smush has been schooling the Blazers with crossovers and drives through the lane. Reminds me of Crawford last night. Anyway, LeBron can't guard Kobe because he will be guarding Odom. The Cavs have the definite advantage at the 4 and 5. Gooden and Z should get Kwame and Mihm in early foul trouble and score easily all night.

But, back to the guards...I don't think it will be a good night for many minutes for Wilks. He's a little small to do well against the Lakers backcourt. So, we need to go with our bigger guards (Newble/Jackson/Sasha). If we do that and make Kobe work for his 40+, we should be OK. Blazers giving the Lakers all they can handle right now with 5:00 left in the 3rd. Game is in Portland, which means late night arrival for tired Lakers in LA. We need to jump on them early with lots of energy. And, if we do get a 10+ point lead, how about a little killer instinct? Push it to 20+ instead of letting them right back in the game (like the Knicks).

Re: Cavaliers @ Lakers 10:30ET TNT

This should be a fun game. I wanna see LeBron guard Kobe. We might have Snow or Newble on him at first, but hopefully LeBron will want to guard Kobe. I bet we will see a shootout of sorts between the two.

I was a big fan of Smush Parker when he was a Cavalier. Good to see him make it in the league. Z should tear up Chris Mihm.

Can we contain Kobe/Odom? If so Cavs win!

Re: Cavaliers @ Lakers 10:30ET TNT

come on newble, injure kobe again :king:

Re: Cavaliers @ Lakers 10:30ET TNT

Kobe is going to destroy us. You can't expect Ira Newble to try to contain him the entire game. He just isn't quick enough.

However, The Lakers aren't that great of a team. They just lost to the freakin' BLAZERS. If Kobe has a scoring night of below 30, we might be able to hang in there.

My gut instincts tell me that the Cavaliers can pull this one off. Zydrunas dogs the hell out of Chris Mihm everytime they face off. It is manditory that we feed Z this game.

PORTLAND, Ore. - Forget the marquee matchup against LeBron James tonight at Staples Center. Kobe Bryant is simply due for some good karma facing the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"I just want to come out of the game healthy," Bryant said.
You've come to the wrong guy Kobe!

Re: Cavaliers @ Lakers 10:30ET TNT

The Cavs have dropped five straight in Los Angeles.

Re: Cavaliers @ Lakers 10:30ET TNT

Lebron can shut down odom putting all the offensive pressure on bryant. bryant will crack as he is not used to leading his team.

we can take advantage of our quickness with drew and jones. make them run and huff and puff until they are tired and crying uncle. then dump the ball into z until mihn can't take it no more. they have no one who can stop donyell from the corner. stop and pop. stop and pop.

there is no way that we lose to a weak laker team. just because they have a winning record in the staple center this year is no reason to panic. we can overcome.
