LeBron James Sign & Trade Possibilities

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think LeBron is committed to getting the max. Which is probably the main reason I think he would stay a Cav.

If the Cavs put in minimal commitment to improve this offseason, I cannot see him staying in Cleveland. I wouldn't if I were him; it wouldn't be worth it....

You don't think that Gilbert is counting down the days when he doesn't have to pay the ridiculous tax?

You know, I do think that's a factor actually... I've said before, the Cavs should cut salary this offseason by trading away the bulk of our larger deals. If we S&T for George, you'd largely mitigate our salary issues for the next few years.

He WILL get the max from us and demand a trade...I would not be surprised if it happened near the Trade Deadline next year.

He is considered as the cheapest player in the NBA. He is also the greatest player ever. He will get his way.

But I personally feel he is also looking for every excuse to stay. He wouldn't have came back otherwise. He speaks highly of Ohio all the time and is genuine about it. Winning is still probably his priority, but he is coming to a stage of his career/life where it might be about more than that. The comfort of home and having power over an organization, his legacy in Cleveland, his kids finishing school in Ohio etc.

Maybe he would leave for a couple years and come back again but I think he wants to stay. If we can swing a trade for star player, especially someone like Kawhi, he would finish his career here. Even a smaller trade might be enough of an excuse. We will see.

One of the underappreciated aspect of why he may not leave to go to another team is that there really isn't a roster that tips the balance to that team. Meaning, which team could he go to that would automatically be favorites? I guess Houston, but it seems so unlikely he would get traded there. Even then, we are still talking about beating a cohesive well-practiced team with 2 MVP's on it. There is still luck involved.

Going to a totally stacked team is attractive, but if anything it puts more pressure on him. Then it is 2011 all over again and it looks like he is trying to beat GS.

I had previously mentioned the Miami Heat's reasoning to give LeBron and Bosh sign and trades back in 2010. By the two signing with their original teams they were able to receive a 5th year on their contract that they wouldn't have received otherwise, as well as higher annual raises year-over-year on the contracts. The Heat had the cap space to sign them outright, but in using a sign and trade it enabled them to pay the players more, giving themselves a better pitch to them as FAs.

However the new CBA changes things. In the new CBA, if a player signs with its original team and is simultaneously traded (a sign-and-trade agreement), they are only allowed to sign a contract up to 4 years, and will not receive the improved annual raises. This was done in an attempt to prevent the creation of super-teams - yet could end up just screwing the Cavs if Philly easy able to offload money elsewhere and simply sign LeBron into their cap space. There'd be no added benefit for a sign and trade as there was in the above 2010 scenario. The NBA really shit the bed in regards to benefitting the lower market teams and preventing super teams. The exact same situation has played out with the new Designated Player Extension as well... as that was put into place in an attempt for lower market teams to keep home-grown superstars, when in reality it simply forced them out. They should have put less emphasis on a team being able to keep a player, and more on providing improved benefits for a team that would lose a star player. Instead, it's the opposite.

I said this already, but I don't think Philly would have any problem trading away Bayless into someone's cap space during or after the draft. If LeBron wants to go to Philly I do not expect it to be in a sign and trade agreement.

Ummm...Philly?!

LBJ came back to Cleveland to fulfill his promise_ a promise he fulfilled for his hometown in 2016. However, vicissitudes in life are full of surprises as the Cavs were riding on their laurels fooling themselves into the 2017 fiasco which brought the overwhelming and shameful defeat to GSW.
The Cavs in this playoffs will need some strong words of motivation from all quarters in and outside Cleveland to bring out the best of HOOD, HILL, CLARKSON & OSMAN (WELL THESE 2 GUYS HAVE THE "KILLER INSTINCT" - NO NEED OF EXTRA MOTIVATION), NANCE, PERKINS, SMITH, THOMPSON, ZIZIC, et., al.
I believe they are potentially a very strong team which need a catalytic converter towards attaining the needed metamorphosis to soar high in the playoffs and finals.
TY LUE has to fill in that gap if he can motivate these guys & teach new tricks for the playoffs especially on the defense and play for the threes concerning K-KORVER, K-LOVE, & JR-SMITH _ I mean, these three guys must be helping themselves together to make anyone of them to be free for a clear shot and break the defense for LBJ and Nance (or name it you have it) to attack the basket in a pick and roll.
James and Love has always been good as contingents to the Cavs team - Cavs will not be Cavs without them. Stop looking at Cavs as a bad team right now. There will be surprises as indicated by their capabilities to rise to the occasion even if 30 plus starter five combinations are being adopted or employed.
Too, much choices and talents that abound and are at play at Cavs right now is just somehow confusing but not hopeless. Cavs would have easily made the 3 - 1 lead over Pacers had they not wasted things every 3rd quarter and 4th quarter of each game as they battle through.
We will have to understand the difficulty Le Bron and injured Love is undergoing right now given a very short period to gel their team into a great contender for the 2018 finals.
I expect a tight competition between Philly and the Cavs as this series close for the eastern conference should the Cavs learn fast and gel quickly. The Cavs is a great team believe me!
LEBRON has more reason to stay at Cleveland as he showed to us that he always wanted challenge. He is no doubt greater than Michael Jordan considering the path he is taking.

What is this blasphemy. Cleveland is LeBron's home and he's not leaving it again. No fanbase will love him like Cleveland does.
No one can get inside the mind of Lebron to know what he wants next. One can only speculate based on his past manner, attitude, actions and ways to approximate his present interest and future intent.
In the past Lebron left Cleveland in search for a Gold Ring _ he got two at Miami;
In the recent past, he came back to fulfill a promise he made to Cleveland still to get a Gold Ring _ he realized it;
What is in Lebron's heart and mind right now? Most likely, still the Gold Ring to get more (the Glory), the GOAT thing to pursue (the fame) , the money to amass (the Profit), and the Legacy to the Basketball world with the Persona to project (the image);
What made him do and think and act like he does today, having all the above stuff inside him, is his love for basketball and his desire to have that GOLD RING again and again. Everything else were an accident.

I hate these threads during a playoff run

Im expecting lebron to sign a multi year deal...he already knows who he is bringing in
