NEW YORK (AP) -- Tim Duncan became only the fifth player to earn All-NBA first-team honors in each of his first eight seasons Wednesday, joining Hall of Famers Larry Bird, George Mikan, Bob Pettit and Oscar Robertson.

Duncan, who averaged 20.3 points and 11.1 rebounds in leading San Antonio to its eighth consecutive playoff appearance, finished third behind Miami center Shaquille O'Neal and NBA MVP Steve Nash in voting by a 124-member media panel.

O'Neal, a seven-time first-team selection, received 122 first-place votes and 616 points. Nash was second with 118 first-place votes and 606 points, and Duncan got 95 first-place votes and 553 points. Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki earned the second forward spot opposite Duncan, and Philadelphia's Allen Iverson joined Nash at guard.

Nash, a first-time first-team selection, averaged 15.5 points and an NBA-best 11.5 assists to help Phoenix top the regular-season standings in his first season with the team. Iverson, the league scoring champion at 30.7 points per game, was selected to the first team for the third time, while Nowitzki earned his first first-team berth.

Cleveland's LeBron James was selected to the second team along with fellow forward Kevin Garnett of Minnesota, Phoenix center Amare Stoudemire, and Miami's Dwyane Wade and Seattle's Ray Allen. Houston's Tracy McGrady and the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant joined Phoenix's Shawn Marion, Washington's Gilbert Arenas and Detroit's Ben Wallace on the third team.

I have no dramas with LeBron missing out on the 1st team. Nash is the NBA's MVP, whilst Shaq is a no brainer. Duncan has been Duncan again and is the 3rd best player this season. Iverson was phenominal this season, somehow dragging his team into the playoffs. Dirk was tremendous all season keeping Dallas up there with the elite teams.

LeBron failing to make the playoffs was key, but i think these players were better overall.

27/7/7? Come on, thats 1st team written all over it. If LeBron had made the playoff's, I am sure that he would have been 1st team. He was an MVP canidate and had an OUTSTANDING line this season.

I agree Infante. When I saw the first team, I figured he missed out because they consider him a guard -- and Iverson and Nash are both more deserving. But Dirk - LeBron had a better year - Dirk has much better talent around him. His team is always in the playoffs - he did nothing more spectacular than what he has done before. Even Duncan's year was nothing special. But you can write him in.

Well, I feel a little bit better now after seeing the 3rd team. Kobe Bryant 3rd team? Wow.

Well a team that was supposed to be a lock for the playoffs in a weak east with him as the leader, you cant put a player on first team that didnt make the playoffs.

I'm a bit surprised to see Tmac on the third team. He had a phenomenal season.

I really think LeBron deserved to be on the first team. He was the player doing the most with the least imo. But its perfectly understandable why he wouldnt make it. Players that miss the playoffs are rarely on the first team. If I wasnt a cleveland fan that watched him all season I would have probably put him on the second team too.

I didn't see LeBron making the 1st team. Making all NBA 2nd team is still an honor and I think that's where he belongs. He should have plenty of chnaces to make a bunch of 1st teams.
I really don't see anyone who you can say LeBron 100% deserves to beat out. Duncan belongs on the 1st team every year. Nash and Iverson had great seasons. Nowitzki was very good all year, put up big numbers and is the leader and go to guy of a quality playoff team.

Well I am disapointed that he didn't make the 1st team. Honestly though, I didn't see him making it anyways and the guys that did are the best players in the league.

Kinda makes you appreciate just how good Mark Price was....especially in the season where he made 1st team.

im not that mad cause if the cavs would have made the playoffs he would have been on it over dirk prolly.suprising to see kg on the 2nd team.I bet the 2nd team would whoop on the 1st team anyways.

we can all say that we didnt think that bron wouldnt make the first team but that is besides the point. hes the third player in nba history to get 25, 7, 7. i could care less how good the team was.

the sixers did so great in the playoffs to didnt they.

im really starting to not like iverson. this guy shoot 30% and hes so great. he won the allstar deal when z should have won it, he shot like 5-17, and now he gets the first team when bron should have gotten it.

there are a lot of players who could score 30 points a game by taking 30 shots and this guy continues to get cred.

no coach can figure out how to build and coach a team with him, he doesnt make his teamates better, larry brown had trouble with him.

but on the flip side bron shines were iverson is bad. :thumbdown

If we made the play-offs LeBron probably would have made the 1st team, because if you look at the people on the 1st team....there teams all made the play-offs. Second team is an amazing feat for a second year player straight out of High School.
On a side note out of the 5 players on the second team 3 of them didnt even go to college, and 1/3 of the players on the 1st,2nd and 3rd team didnt play college. Thats a pretty big percentage.

Iverson does what it takes to get his team to win, LeBron has yet to do that consistently. Individually James may have been better stats wise, but there are whole lot of other things to take into consideration, defense being 1 major one.
