LeMelo Ball Scouting: Discuss

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Agree about Lonzo. Comparing LeMelo, I'm not sure "diva" is the right word for what I'm thinking, but less grounded definitely works.

Every time I hear him talk, he just sounds like a total airhead with delusions of enlightenment or transcendence or something. He sounds like he's speaking in dialogue out of Zoolander, like Hansel's montage talking about wondering what bark is made of as a kid. The last interview I heard, he was asked about what he thinks about when he's playing or what he looks out for or whatever, like trying to allow him to talk about his vision and anticipation, and he says something like, "I really don't think, I just listen to music in my head..." and then I just slam my fist down on my desk and scream out shut the fuck up you fucking nimrod and get in trouble for language.

also no real excuse for this, it’s not like he’s a child born in poverty who didn’t have access to a proper education like some nba players that arnt the best speakers. I have friends in Lithuania who knew him and didn’t have much positive things to say, it is in my opinion a beautiful country with a really warm friendly people, and he just shit all over them in interviews which is damn disrespectful. Still would draft him best player available imo but would be hard to root for him...

That’s cause he’s got 50% Lavar genes and that’s a VERY scary thing.

It's very 2020 that we're evaluating draft prospects based on their level of sanity as well as their basketball skills :chuckle:

There's been enough crazy in the NBA that they probably should have been doing it long before now.

If this guy falls to five, you can't take him. You can ACT like you are going to take him though and see if you can get someone to bite. I always thought us falling to five was a good thing because I didn't want the choice of having to consider this kid. He has miss all over him in terms of prospects. He also has that twinkle of something special lurking which makes me wonder.

Then again, I thought Anthony Bennett had that as well and we all know how that one turned out. Where does Ball best fit?

If he falls to #5 you have to hope that The Knicks will still be The Knicks and fleece em

I wonder if him dropping to #5 could be enough for him to put a chip on his shoulder. I think if he comes in and wants to put in work on both ends of the floor, he could be a real good addition. There is alot to like about his size and natural passing ability. He just can't come in being happy with the player he currently is. He needs to commit to playing defense and work on his shot selection/mechanics.
I just wonder if going from potentially going #1 to #5 is enough to put that chip on his shoulder. I do believe a guy of his size and skill set does fit the Cavs roster real well.

Well, if that's the best we can do to convince a NBA young superstar why he should stay...I think you make a pretty good case for why he wouldn't.

Ok, I am back. I had given myself 5 day timeout after you took my sarcastic comment seriously!

Now, Ball seems to manipulate his way (see the interviews) to fall to the Knicks. There is now a probability, even though thin, that he may fall to #5. The draft might, just might, go like this: Edwards, Wiseman/Hayes, Okongwu, Avdija. In such a case, the Cavs will have to choose from among Ball, Okoro, and Toppin (according to Fedor's list). I think even with the diva-talk, he will be hard to pass.

At least give me the chuckle emoji next time! :chuckle:

Anyway, if his interviews have really been that bad, he's either a legit headcase, or he's willing to take less money and ruin his rep with other teams just to get to the Knicks.

In either case, it's enough of a red flag that I don't want him. It not only doesn't speak well of him in terms of how he'd be as an individual player here, but he also sounds like a culture-killer. We just don't need guys here telling everyone else how Cleveland sucks.

Nah. At that point you tell the Knicks you're taking him unless they offer you a great deal. Get Mitchell Robinson, #8 and some other assets. Toss Drummond in there for them, too. Didn't the movie Draft Day teach us anything???

Precisely

Man... what a shitty movie

They're saying Ball my fall in the draft...
Yep. Lots of questions about his ugly jumper, his mental makeup, and his screwy family. Ball could easily fall to #5, if not further. I think his floor is Detroit at #7.
