Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The issue here is that the outcomes of possible trades were determined by intervening factors that were unique when it comes to trading star players: 1) Gilbert wanted a deal done very soon, to potentially keep LeBron happy, and 2) Gilbert was hedging his bets against both LeBron staying AND LeBron leaving which leads to 2a) Gilbert accepted IT as a cornerstone of the deal because of the other two points and finally, 3) Gilbert didn't have a GM in place and was amidst a time of chaotic transition.

These factors greatly shape what they were looking for in terms of a package and the timeframe with which to get them. One can debate that by wanting both outcomes Gilbert got neither, but from a negotiating stand point, only certain teams would have assets that could meet what Gilbert wanted at that time, and it really narrows the field quite a bit. And teams had a good idea that Gilbert wasn't going to bide his time if he didn't get what he wanted from the first batch of offers. Finally, with a rookie GM in place, and given the circumstances of Griffin's departure, there is the thought that teams approached the whole processes differently with a negative view of the Cavs in general and Gilbert in particular.

The Cavs were not necessarily looking for the best deal in a traditional sense, but the best deal under those parameters.

It would have been interesting if Griff stayed on and both him and Gilbert could agree upon what was most necessary to hedge that bet. I think they would have came down to getting the Nets pick as the center piece and Griff could do whatever he needed outside of that to get the pieces around to make another championship run.

I think one thing you didn't point out that I think was reported is that the Cavs viewed IT for both the championship and rebuilding timelines if necessary. I'm not sure Griff would have seen it that way especially with knowledge of the Sun's and how they just gave IT up for nothing.

If Griff was around we might have seen a multi team trade where the Cavs got Bledsoe, the nets pick, and maybe still Crowder (who knows how Griff viewed him) plus maybe Rozier. IT might have been shipped off to the Bucks because the Suns won't have wanted him and it may have been a cheap flyer for the Bucks and some lesser compensation that Boston would have added to make it all work out. Buck give up Monroe like they did for Bledsoe and some combined compensation with Boston that equals the 1st and 2nd round picks they gave up.

In the end the Cavs would have been better off and the Bucks would have too. IT flames out and they keep Brogdon long term.

i think this scenario is what really played out. it could have potentially been a multi-team deal, but since griff is going, there is not enough time to pull it off.

I don't think it was time. The Bledsoe part of it needed Klutch to push him out of Phoenix so it definitely needed everyone on the same page to get it done. Klutch and LeBron had to be on board with it. Without Griff and his good relationship with LeBron and Phoenix, it wasn't going to happen. We know Gilbert and LeBron don't have a good relationship. It was a balancing act to avoid tampering.

I’m gonna go fly a sign on the w150th 480 exit.

With everything going on, I think the most frustrating part is just the lack of capability JBB has and that no one just gives him shit for it, because none of the beat writers want to lose access to the team.

The good coaches look at what they have and make adjustments to take advantage of the strengths, I feel like despite having an eager team, he's not giving them tools to succeed with. There is no identity on the team at all, it's just a mess at the moment.

no complaints at all lol why bother its preseason its JBB its overreaction thread time and this team was never a contender this season anyway. tame the expectations is my only advise

In fairness he doesn't know what he has yet when players like Mobley,Rubio and Markkannen are new additions and others like Windler and Love have either never or rarely ever been available. Then add the fact its early players worked on their games and some will bring improved ability in ways that allow the coaches to get more done.
It takes time when you are rebuilding it takes time every new season too.
Bulls brought in vets who need no development just chemistry .

I knew this season was too good to be true! We are FUCKED now, make no mistake we are FUCKED! Ricky was essential to what this team was doing. Plus we lost to fucking New Orleans playing a sub-G league squad. That’s just the beginning of what it’s going to be like without Ricky.

I don’t want to hear any dumb-ass trade ideas either. That’s the last thing we need is a panic trade where we give away key assets for someone who won’t be half as good as Ricky was. FUCKED!

Coaching was G-League level too.

Why the fuck didn’t we go with some Mobley post ups at all in the last quarter? Just mind boggling

This is the ultimate disaster.

All season long I've been saying that pining after an extra wing when we have just two NBA level point guards on the roster (one of whom is a 30+ year old with a million miles on him) is beyond fucking stupid. And it really, really bit us in the ass now. Jesus.

What were they thinking? Valentine and Pangos cannot play PG in the NBA. That is a fucking fact. Denzel can be used in a microwave 11th man role when you need a couple of crazy 3s, Pangos can't even do that. I don't want to see that dude out there ever again. His complete inability to do anything was what led to Rubio playing exhausted and ended his season.

We're at a point now where we have to make a trade. There is no alternative. It's going to cost us, probably a rotation player, but there you go. We took a major risk and it backfired.

The Cavs need to find a vet PG who can shoot, play big minutes and step right in. Easier said than done at this stage.
