Andy Martino of SNY started what I'll call a "take worthy of RCF"... The article was posted after the Yankees demise in game five of the ALCS.. (Link: https://sny.tv/articles/solution-to...gio-urshela-move-gleyber-torres-to-third-base )

The relevant statement for this posting involves what the NYY's are going to do with their below average (Outs Above Average) spots in their infield.. It starts with the NYY's # 1 priority, resigning DJ LeMahieu..

Here is the comment: "... Then we realize that the Yanks could tighten their defense by re-signing LeMahieu to play second base, moving Torres to third base, trading Gio Urshela and bringing in a shortstop like Andrelton Simmons or Brandon Crawford .." Instead of either one of these guys, how about Lindor?.. And sure.. we'll start with Gio and Red Thunder coming back where they belong on the North Coast.. perhaps another name or two.. Then move JRam to 2B.. Gio back at 3B.. and play Chang at SS or another deal.. it would save about $ 18 - 20 MM in payroll..

Thoughts?..
Gio, Frazier and a prospect? Sounds like a winner.

The Indians aren't moving an MVP candidate to another position for Gio Fucking Urshela. No organization in their right mind would that....

I'm not convinced we can get three of anybody's top eight prospects for one year of Lindor. Maybe if the prospects play positions that are so deep in their organizations that they are totally blocked for a couple of years...

Also there's still uncertainty as to whether we can have a full season next year and whether tickets can be sold. Teams might be reluctant to add a big contract.
It will also depend on Lindors party, since we could put in a clause where they have 24-48 hours to do an extension or something with the team traded to etc. As long as the team can resign Lindor, they will give up better players.

Gio has turned into a solid player, but we arent moving JRam off of 3B. Now if whomever was at 3B was bad defensively and was better at another position, then yeah it makes to move them around, but JRam is a good enough 3B, there is no reason to move him off of there.

Moving JRam from 3B to 2B, a position unoccupied currently w/ a more than adequate replacement for JRam, along with a strong OF'er (our biggest deficiency) & superior defense and offense at 3B is the intent..

Put another way..using the payroll as a key influence.. A number of things would be in play..

1. Salaries: salaries not kept = Carlos, Frankie and Hand ( reduction of 17, 10 and 17.5 MM respectively) Salaries added ~ $ 6 MM (Red Thunder and Gio) gives the tribe a net reduction of $ 38 MM.

2. Filling the 2B, 3B and RF spots with quality (both offensive and defensive) ML players with three or more years of control at the cost of one year of a superb SS is a better use of the scarce resources... waaaaaaaaaay better...

Fear of moving JRam from 3B doesn't bother me or him.. according to him.. as he's stated.. JRam said he'll move to a different position, but doesn't want to flip once he starts the season.. I can respect that... you should too..

Are the Indians better with an infield that doesn't have Lindor?.. probably not.. No team would be better losing Frankie.. but it's inevitable. Having a RF'er, a 3B and a 2B that all produce at exceptional levels.. makes the TEAM better.. and that's the bottom line..

Thoughts?

That's no longer the case, or so I've heard.

Regardless, Antonetti has already come out and said Ramirez isn't moving off 3B. He's an MVP candidate there....

Didn't he say years ago when they first moved him to third that he prefers 2B over 3B?

BTW..with the money saved from the loss of Los, Frankie and Hand.. the Indians can buy wither Joc Pederson or, as long as we're bringing guys back.. bring back Brantley...

The Indians don't like to make deals with American League teams. They will, but there has to be a big reason. Trading for Miller /Yanks put them in the World Series. I think Lindor goes to a NL team.

But whatever we get, the main piece should be an OF. We have so many SS prospects it's ridiculous.

Indians will be around a 50ish million payroll, from my hunch/reading between the lines, the Indians will likely not go above 60 mil area probably to recover from 20.

There will be a lot of teams not spending much money this off season, so likely the market will favor smaller teams in the tier 2 of players. I think a Brantley (who likely will earn a decent paycheck still) isnt coming back to Cleveland, but I expect the Indians to bring in a bunch of guys on non roster spring invites to make the team, especially in the OF, Middle INF and LHP. They may bring back Santana/Hand, but I dont expect more than one free agent signing at greater than 5 mil to happen this offseason.

Yankees aren’t trading Urshela. End of story.

The Tribe is in dire financial straits, I think they make the deal that gives them the most payroll relief and a prospect package they like. As we have seen, what the Tribe values and what other teams value are fairly different, so I doubt the Yankees, with their high priced foreign prospects and blue chip draft picks, are in the team's radar. I suspect the best deal for Lindor is some package of a teams best prospects- to the Padres, with the Padres no. 25-30 prospects heading to the Tribe use the most likely deal.

Since revamping his swing Urshela has slashed 314/355/534/889 in 2019 and 298/368/490/858 in 2020. I can't speak for the Yankees, but if I ran that franchise there's no way in hell that I'm trading a GG caliber 3B that hits like that. I doubt I would trade Urshela straight up for Lindor when you factor in cost and control. If the Yankees would do that then I would be all in, but you sure as hell ain't getting anything else in return. They would trade Torres and another piece for Lindor before they would give up Urshela I suspect. God Bless Andy Martino, but he's lost his marbles if he thinks that will happen.

I don't believe that Ramirez will be moved off of 3B. It just doesn't make sense with the current roster make up.
