Lindor trade ideas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Perhaps it was the best way for the Indians to say goodbye, at the time.. The Indians had suffered through two strong years of poor health. and were not going to extend Dr. Smooth any form of a contract with eight digits, including the QO... As a "tip of the hat", instead of making Brantley's departure acrimonious or reduce Smooth's chance at signing.. the Indians just let him go.. If the insider information is correct, & at the time it may have been.. then this was the best the Indians could do for someone they admired so much..

or something like that..

Indians weren’t going to pay $18M on a one year deal. Zero incentive for the organization to do that.

Indians wanted a two year deal and Brantley wanted three. Indians weren’t going there. Brantley walked.

This is false.

Brantley wouldn’t discuss anything but a 3+ year deal with the Indians.

The Indians front office knew his market and wasn’t gonna go beyond 2 years.

Brantley knew his market too and knew nobody was giving him a 3 year deal at the dollar amount he wanted. Do the math here....

The Indians asked him to bring them his best offer and give them a chance to match and he didn’t.

He ain’t coming back
What was posted... was accurate...

Michael Brantley lf
2 years/$32M (2019-20)

  • 2 years/$32M (2019-20)
    • signed by Houston as a free agent 12/18/18
    • $2M signing bonus
    • 19:$15M, 20:$15M
That's what Brantley signed for with Houston..

I'm not sure what you're talking about.

You said the Indians weren't going to "extend Brantley any form of contract with eight digits" and that's false.

They were prepared to do so.... just not on a one year qualifying deal or the three year deal Brantley demanded. The Indians could have, and likely would have, matched that Houston offer had they had the opportunity to do so.

That is correct.. the Indians were NOT going to extend Brantley an 8 digit contract and they DID NOT... The Indians DID NOT EXTEND A QO (*which would be an 8 digit contract or any other number of years that would have an AAV at 8 digits) The Indians did not offer a one two three or more year deal.. they watched him walk away with their blessing.. This is what was stated..

BTW... Houston offered the 8 digit AAV contract.. for two years..... So, Brantley went there.. and has flourished.. and is still flourishing..

So, again.. what was posted, how it was posted and the chronology of what was posted remains accurate..

It's really not at all accurate. If you don't think the Indians didn't talk to Brantley's representatives about a contract extension then I don't know what to tell you.

Kenny Felder said three years or no deal with the Indians at a high dollar amount right from the onset. Priced himself right outta Cleveland. The Indians said ok well, we're not doing that. Explore the market, bring us your best offer and give us the opportunity to match.... they didn't. The Indians did the same thing with Santana when he left for Philly.

If Brantley wanted to stay, he would've given the Indians the opportunity to match and they likely would have. Instead, he set a price he knew the Indians wouldn't match and ended up signing with another team..... to a deal the Indians could have matched.

I'm not sure how much clearer I can make this for you.

@Gson

Essentially Brantley would only sign back again with the tribe, if they were willing to pay more than anyone else was and they weren't.

Clear as stirred muddy water..

What I posted is exactly accurate as posted..

Why are we rehashing Brantley’s departure in a Lindor trade ideas thread???

Because people want Brantley's bat back in Cleveland since we lacked something like it this season.

I believe the truth.. I D K what you believe..

Is your info from an insider source or directly from your opinion? Ed's is from an insider source which we got about the time Brantley left and sometime after that we got more info as well. So I kind of have to side with the insider source before anything else...

Either way, Brantley isn't coming back to Cleveland. At best Cleveland will have 10 mil to spend and they likely will put out the money between minor league free agents with incentives and an invite to spring training, a lefty/two lefty relievers, and maybe two position players (An INF and an OF). Brantley is likely going to get at least ten on a one year deal type, so he is out of the question.

Did Brantley leave Cleveland after his contract was up?.. (answer: yes)
Did Brantley receive a QO from the Indians?.. (answer: no)
Did Brantley receive an 8 digit contract from the Astros?.. (answer: yes)
Is Michael Brantley a Free Agent after the completion of the world series?.. (answer: yes)
Can Michael Brantley sign a future contract with any team that offers one?.. (answer: yes)

Sports.. there aren't sides.. the truth doesn't have sides..

You didn't ask two more questions which are..

Does Cleveland have the cap to sign Brantley? No..

Does Brantley want to play in Cleveland? That answer is no

Reason why is because of what @EdMonix11 stated.

Brantley will only come back if we offer him significantly higher than everyone else and we cannot even afford Brantley to begin with....Not sure how that doesn't fit into your narrative.

Brantley's ship has sailed from the north coast. He's too costly and they have too many young players that need opportunities. I have no reason to not believe what Ed posted, but even if it weren't true the situation would remain the same IMO.

The Lindor trade likely influences this too. I just can't believe that they are not going to get at least 1 OFer in the deal.
