Lindor trade ideas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Taking just this point of your comment...

Yes.. there are several teams with a need for a SS.. Philadephia is absolutely one as their SS, DiDi is going to be a free agent.. The NYY's are short on a true SS as Gleyber Torres is just not a ML caliber shortstop.. The Los Angeles Angels have a vacancy in their SS spot as Simba is going to be a FA in a matter of days....

All three of these examples.. would be THRILLED to have an Indians SP attached to the deal.. I'm not certain who that might be.. but.. with the depth of starting pitching and desire to move Frankie.. a deal could be had.. a deal that achieves the rebuild in a big hurry..

Thoughts?..

Angels are an interesting team since I am not sure how they are going to change the roster with the new GM. They haven't had a ton of luck and I think they will focus on Starting pitching rather than a Lindor. They are a team that could afford to give Lindor that extension he wants, so that won't be an issue there. The question is who are they willing to move..

The GM will inherit a team with some clear and present issues..

The Angels have five priority needs..

-Starting Pitching.. the Angels are snakebit w/r to pitching..
-Shortstop.. Simba leaving leaves a HUGE hole
-Catching.. Max Stasi had a great season but was injured (hip/labrum) making his 2021 season start questionable..
-Relief Pitching.. simply put.. blows..
-Solidify the Infield... that is.. someone besides David Fletcher that can play everyday.

The Indians and Angel match up from the Indians side of the equation.. the question becomes.. are the Angels willing to offer a package that would interest the Indians in return?.. A deal may need to include Reid Detmers and Brandon Marsh as the starting point in a deal.. I think everyone here already knows enough about Marsh.. safe to say, he's not Jo Adell.. and that's a good thing.. Reid Detmers is a kid that will remind people of a left handed version of Shane Bieber (four pitch mix.. works off his fastball, throws all four of his pitches out of the same tunnel, etc) and, most importantly.. he has Bieber's kind of command and control.. If Lindor goes.. an SP may have to go with him to bring these two guys and perhaps a deeper prospect (D'Shawn Knowles CF or Robinson Pina)..

Just another team with some guys that could interest the Indians..and are seriously interested in Lindor..

I've said from the get go that the Angels do not have what it takes to acquire Lindor. At least from a perspective that makes sense for them as well. Having said that, would anyone be interested in offering one of Carrasco(if there's no gentlemen's agreement)/Civale/McKenzie to the Angels for Marsh and Detmers?

I like that proposal.

I like that proposal.
The discussion about the Angles and Indians getting together for a Lindor trade may be heating up albeit, indirectly. According to a NY Post (they have more stories than Biden Laptop), the Angels are "looking into" Didi Gregorius.. So, this Indians SP to the Angels for an Angels OF/SP prospect could make some sense..

That sense.. the Indians reload with the idea that Lindor is staying (for now).. they acquire an OF'er they like and will have for five/six years.. get that throw in prospect (either Detmers or someone else) while sacrificing an SP that the Angels want.. The value of Carrasco would bring both.. Civale or MacKenzie would probably need some added help from the Indians (perhaps Yu Chang to play 2B?) for it to happen..

As the business of baseball has been massively changed.. every thing that was.. may never be again.. & there is lots and lots of time between now the start of spring training (est. 116 days until pitchers and catcher report to spring training in Goodyear !!)...

Thoughts?.

INSERT: somone is never going to be traded mantra... again..

You’re right, it is a mantra. It just makes my brain go blank.

Carrasco's value isn't as high as some are thinking in a lot of ways. Carrasco has a team friendly contract and can be a very good pitcher when healthy, but can he hold up over 30+ starts? He is in his mid 30s with a cancer battle and injuries.

Angels do need pitching badly, but I dont think they will trade a guy like Detmers for Carrasco. He is their number 2 prospect who has a ton of upside and likely on a Bieber type of path to the pros for a gamble in Carrasco.

Also who would be the OF you are talking about? Marsh I dont think is going anywhere especially since Pujols has one more season in LA and Marsh i think will replace pujols as the 1B at least short term. Outside of him and Adell, and maybe Jahmai Jones, they really don't have anyone to play OF ready at the moment. Also I wouldn't be surprised to see the Angels try to move Upton (pay part of his contract) to free up even more money for 22, when a bunch of guys are free agents.

If I am running a ball club and have a bunch of big contracts and a crappie farm, I am not going to have to overspend for an aging SP that dealt with cancer the year before. I am gonna wanna get young guys. So my guess would be going for like a Plesac type of guy using a deal center around a Jahmai Jones, Jackson or Paris. They have Fletcher at 2B/SS and Rendon at 3B plus a few other INFs at the big league club, 25 and under. So if I could get a Carrasco for that deal then sure, but the Indians strength are in the same positions of LAs offer. Like the idea, but I dont like the match.

Arguably, Clevinger was as big a health risk and one less year of control than Carrasco and he netted six prospects. Just saying.

Compare the prospects San Diego has to what the Angels have. San Diego still has a better farm than the Angels making all the trades they did. If Indians are going to max out a return in a Carrasco trade, it wouldn't be to the Angels. They cannot offer up what a lot of teams can. If they don't trade Marsh or Detmers (who likely they arent willing to) then the next prospects are all middle INF types, which is the only thing their farm has extra of. Indians aren't looking for that in a trade back, we lack catching and OF prospects and Angels dont have much of either.

Agree the Angels are not the optimal trade partner.

I cannot see the Angels giving up significant prospects to pay a 3rd position player $35m+ yearly. Go fix your pitching, the offense is fine.

Uhhhhh Marsh does not and has not played 1B to my knowledge. He's a plus defender in CF of that I'm sure. If they need a replacement for Pujols then let them choose between Bauers and Bradley. If they don't want Carrasco then offer them one of Civale/McKenzie for Marsh and Detmers. Sorry, but they don't have the prospect assets to even come close to getting Plesac. Do you realize how good he's been? If they need an OF then send them Naquin. He's serviceable and has produced recently. There you have it, Civale/McKenzie, Bauers/Bradley, Naquin for Marsh, Detmers, and a low level prospect. Most analysts would say the Angels won that trade.

What if Cleveland packages Lindor with Baker? Maybe throw in Drummond?
You know I read this like 3 hours ago and thought who tf is Baker and Drummond, I don't remember anybody in the Tribe system with those names. It just now hit me who you are talking about lol.

I have a good buddy who is a big Blue Jays fan.

He seems to think Danny Jansen, Jordan Groshans and Alek Manoah for Lindor would be a fair and realistic deal.

I think that'd be a fucking HR for the Tribe, to be honest. Probably not gonna get both Manoah AND Groshans but I think the Indians could get one of those guys with Jansen and maybe a younger propsect.
