Lindor trade ideas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why is they play in the same town as the Yankees. They will want to make a splash with new ownership. Lindor wants bright lights big city. He certainly did not want Cleve. Never once said he wanted to remain a Indian. Just going to stroll out of town saying “hey they didn’t want to pay me” when he knows damn well they couldn’t

it aint frankie's fault they cant pay him

Frankie likes Cleveland and the organization, he just knows his worth and isn't going to take anything less than that, which is fair. He knows he will 30 area a season from someone in free agency while he knows 20 mil area at best from Cleveland. Can you blame him for wanting to hit free agency when there is a 100 mil difference in pay between organizations over the next ten years of his career?

If I’m being honest, I’d be shocked if Lindor gets what he thinks he’s worth.

I mean, Betts AAV is slightly north of $30M a season and Lindor is, for me at least, in a tier beneath him.

Frankie is a star, no doubt, I just don’t think he’s in that superstar tier with guys like Betts, Trout, Cole, etc. I think somewhere between Altuve ($23M) and Yelich ($26M) is probably fair.

Yeah, he’s gonna get more on the open market but I don’t think it’s gonna be an awfully huge discrepancy on a per year basis.

I dont blame him though for trying to get essentially that max contract in free agency. I think the Indians before Covid and Sherman leaving could have gotten him a 10-250 in a sense, but between those two factors, we really lost the chance to resign him. I think his party is going to go for the 10-300 when/if he hits free agency. If whomever he gets traded too does offer him that, he may resign there, but otherwise he's going to go for the top money he can in free agency.

FWiW & IMHO... It's doubtful the Indians EVER offer a contract beyond 5 years.. to ANYONE.. Ten at what ever number.. is highly unlikely to ever happen with the current financial structure of the club..

If somehow, the indians ended up with an 18 year old kid who could play MVP level from day one... Think top 5 in baseball history, I sure hope they try to go 5+ years on our savior... But realistically, it is unlikely :)

The tribe could very easily go over 5 years on a contract at a low enough rate, but not many players would do that. Berto is 5 years plus an option so 6, but despite his success, at 7.5 mil in 2022, it's probable they pay 450k to buy him out.

I doubt it too, but I think the plan was to try and get something done with Lindor to keep him here for awhile. They wouldn't have done talks over and over again unless they really were trying to keep Lindor. It would have been more of a PR stunt than anything else at the end of the day in a sense, but I know they wanted to do it.

wasnt our "negotiation" with Thome a pr stunt? or was that something that wasnt supposed to get out and was embarrassing to us when it did

This blog predicts tribe will sign Simmons to replace Frankie.

It’s not often that an elite defensive shortstop hits the open market. With four Gold Gloves to his name, Simmons has long been known for his wizardry at the position. Although his prowess at the plate has never been the best aspect of his game, he is capable enough to make an impact. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Angels bring the veteran back for a sixth season, but the Indians loom large. The word out of Cleveland is that the franchise will likely trade Francisco Lindor before the start of next season. If that happens, bringing in a cheaper — but still talented — shortstop like Simmons would make sense. He is not in Lindor’s stratosphere, but he would help the club remain competitive in the AL Central.

Prediction: Cleveland Indians

Yeah, no chance the Indians are going to spend money this offseason.

I think the Indians could do a one year deal like they did with Hernandez last season on a SS to help stopgap until Arias, Freeman etc is ready to take over SS. I just dont think Simmons is within that budget to be honest.

The only reason why I would sign with the Indians is because the market is bad and there wasn't any better offers from a legit playoff contender. Indians have a legit Wild card shot, so the Indians are capable of getting to the playoffs with production bat wise, so we may be able to attract a legit veteran or two on one year, essentially stop gap deals. I just dont think their budget is significant enough to bring in Simmons.

A Freddy Galvis type of INF we could probably get on a one year deal, but I wouldn't expect anyone higher ranked than him.

I think it was more of the, they really wanted to keep Lindor and stuff got leaked. He was offered a contract like JRam (in a sense) and he turned it down. At the time it would have made Lindor the highest paid player with his MLB service time. They at least gave it a legit shot at the end of the day, so I am not mad at Dolan and the FO for at least trying.

Coach, I fully agree. They did not try to low ball him and made him a legit offer from their financial ability. He wanted the $300M contract and I wouldn't give that to Mike Trout at this time. They just don't work in the long run and it handicaps a team like Cleveland so badly that it is a bad idea regardless.

This does spark a conversation centered around the best path forward. Is it better to trade Ramirez now or wait another year? Carrasco probably has to go, and we all know Lindor is as good as gone. There should be an order of when "things" happen and it all starts with the Lindor trade. From there they should probably see what can be returned for Carrasco. At that point they would have a better idea of how the team stands going forward.

The pending loss of Lindor makes the ability to compete more of a challenge. The question becomes.. what is the fullest effect of his departure.. both with how well the Indians will compete, but, also, who comes in or steps in to take up the slack. It's a foregone conclusion that the club will be less capable on defense/run prevention as well as offensively.

This signals the realistic notion that if the Indians are going to trade Lindor.. then doesn't trading one of the SP's:

-not necessarily Cookie who has limited trade value, albeit undeserved!!
-Plesac, who has significant value could be considered..

..imho, both an SP and JRam trades make sense if Lindor is gone, but, still wouldn't define the Indians as rebuilding.. this is still a retool. This is the point. The Indians will adjust or tweak the roster.. but won't slow their ability to compete.. THe return could be six to eight guys who can play.. but

of course, there is clearly less certainty...

You cannot replace a Lindor. The talent is too rare and expensive. It has to be developed/drafted/traded for by an organization such as Cleveland's. The hope is that by trading Lindor and/or Carrasco and/or Ramirez that the overall roster improves.

I don't necessarily believe that Cookie's trade value is limited. He's worth more than he's signed for and there are options. So any team that would acquire his services are not tied to him for 3 yrs unless they want to be.

There is no way on this earth that I trade Plesac. He's everything this team should be looking to get and hold onto. Young, inexpensive, and talented.
