Lindor trade ideas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I would love to share this optimism but pretty convinced they won't spend more than maybe 5 or 6 million on a Cesar Hernandez type.
The tribe started the 2020 season with the intent to spend about $ 96 MM.. the prorated amount for the 60 game schedule amounted to a little more than about 1/3 of that.. with Lindor, Santana and Hand departing.. via trade and non tender.. the Indians will have about $ 50 to $ 54 MM committed for the 2021 season, including all arbitration and all league minimum guys. Adding a "$ 6 MM dollar man"..in the form of a Brantley-like player or more would not be unheard of..

I see it as being more realistic than optimistic..

Why do we constantly revisit guys we've moved on from? I've seen Frazier, Urshela and Brantley mentioned in the last few pages alone. Like holy shit, we've turned the page on these guys.

Brantley did not want to be a Cleveland Indian anymore. The Indians asked him, just as they did with Carlos Santana, to give them the opportunity to match his best offer and he declined. He and his dad spent all last year telling anyone who will listen that the Indians didn't even make him an offer. Pretty sure there's some bad feelings on both sides now.

FWIW, Brantley is kind of an asshole and not the most well-liked guy in the clubhouse.

I mean I like to double post, but not the exact same thing lol

You may very well be right about Brantley but how do you know he declined to allow the Indians to make one final offer?

Aka our insider sources essentially said, Brantley didnt want to come back because of a dispute over how to deal with his injury a few years ago.

Disagree with this...

When Brantley returned for the All Star game... the one with Bieber as the MVP.. the fans not just warmly, but, strongly cheered his return.. a return that was met with a hat tip of appreciation..

He did want to be here.

I booed him :chuckle:

I can only speak for myself, but I've made no mention of bringing Brantley back. I've specifically said that the Yankees will not be trading Urshela, nor should they consider it. Frazier was traded for Miller and could be returned. The Indians' need for an affordable big bat with years of control along with him being blocked in NY makes him a logical possibility.

Why would you boo Brantley? He was pretty much the poster child for professionalism while in Cleveland. I have no desire to bring him back to Cleveland, but I'm a big fan of Michael's.

Upon completion of his contract with the Indians, Brantley signed a two year deal with the Astros for what was pretty close to the QO at the time.. It was the two year that stopped Brantley from returning to the Tribe.. Brantley is very much beloved by the fan base.. Some "insider" injury complaint may be valid.. may not.. IDK.. but, Michael Brantley, aka Dr. Smooth can hit.. is adequate defensively and is a consumate professional in every way.. Having him patrolling in LF would vastly improve the production of the Indians outfield and offense.. On a one year contract.. It's a no brainer..

BTW.. it was Andy Martino that suggested the NYY's would be better with Gleyber at 3B, DJ LaMahieu at 2B, Voit at 1B and Lindor at SS... but it would cost Gio, at least at the start.. adding Frazier just makes good sense as the NYY's have a logjam of OF'ers that MUST play leaving Frazier as the odd man out..

Thoughts?

Yankees could be out on Lindor. Per MLBtraderumors.com and NY Post.

If there’s a model for the Yankees to mimic, it’s the Dodgers more so than the Rays. Though, considering that Andrew Friedman – the architect of these Dodgers – came from the Rays, one could argue that modeling oneself after the Dodgers is mimicking the Rays. The Yankees – lest we forget – are no slouches themselves when it comes to roster construction. Besides, it’s not any easier to become the Rays overnight than it is to become the Yankees overnight. Still, signs point to the Yankees facing a dramatic cut in payroll, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Brantley is liked by the Fan Base because he was a long term player who produced when he was here. He got into a conflict with the FO. He won't be back especially not at a discount. If we outbid everyone then he would think about it, but he won't even think about coming back otherwise.

It may be significant that we did Not make the Q.O. to Brantley. We let him walk free of compensation, ostensibly to make him more appealing in the F.A. market.

This has never been adequately explained to me.

It was essentially as a goodwill statement since they knew Brantley wasn't going to resign/was unhappy with the organization. Indians are really a first rate organization when it comes to treating players as people (at least when it comes to being a professional sports organization).

This is false.

Brantley wouldn’t discuss anything but a 3+ year deal with the Indians.

The Indians front office knew his market and wasn’t gonna go beyond 2 years.

Brantley knew his market too and knew nobody was giving him a 3 year deal at the dollar amount he wanted. Do the math here....

The Indians asked him to bring them his best offer and give them a chance to match and he didn’t.

He ain’t coming back

Perhaps it was the best way for the Indians to say goodbye, at the time.. The Indians had suffered through two strong years of poor health. and were not going to extend Dr. Smooth any form of a contract with eight digits, including the QO... As a "tip of the hat", instead of making Brantley's departure acrimonious or reduce Smooth's chance at signing.. the Indians just let him go.. If the insider information is correct, & at the time it may have been.. then this was the best the Indians could do for someone they admired so much..

or something like that..
