Body of missing Memphis basketball star Lorenzen Wright found

Law enforcement officials have found the body of missing Memphis basketball star Lorenzen Wright in a wooded area at Hacks Cross and Winchester in southeast Memphis.

A law enforcement source confirmed the body was that of Wright, who has been missing since July 19, though the Memphis Police Department won't officially comment.

The body was found by someone who called police today.

Police sources confirmed earlier that they are investigating a 911 hangup call from Wright's cellphone left Monday morning.

Wright was thought to be carrying some amount of cash when he was last seen leaving his ex-wife’s Collierville home, fueling concerns he may be the victim of foul play, according to a Collierville police report released today.

He recently flew from Atlanta to Memphis to visit friends and his six children, friends said. He was scheduled to drive back to the Atlanta area July 19, with his six children and a friend. He was last seen at about 2 a.m. July 19, leaving his ex-wife’s Whisperwood Drive home. His former wife, Sherra Robinson Wright, 39, told police she doesn’t know who he left with or what type of car they were in, according to the missing person’s report.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Wright played 13 years in the NBA, including five with the Memphis Grizzlies, after playing two seasons at the University of Memphis.

Re: Lorenzen Wright / R.I.P.

RIP

So its a suicide?

RIP Lorenzen, great guy.

A lot of death reports are first thought as suicides, it will take a few days or weeks for Police to figure out what happened.

That's a damn shame. Sad day, as Wright was always a class act. My heart goes out to his family.

This is sad. I read it was a "self-inflicted" gunshot wound....but the situation seems to suspicious...foul play could be involved. :( Rest in peace Lorenzen Wright.

R.I.P

Best wished to his family and close friends.

Prayers to friends and family. RIP.

Hope they get real closure soon. At least step one of finding Lorenzen is done, but obviously more questions will arise. Hope everything's figured out ASAP for them.

6 kids? Damn....

My prayers go out to them and Wright's family.

RIP

Sad news indeed. His family has my thoughts and prayers.

RIP......condolences go out to the family.........I wish he could have had a better chance when he was here because i think he could have done something to help the team

Sad man...RIP Lorenzen Wright. Prayers go out to his family and friends. On a side note I doubt he took himself to the woods after not talking to anyone for 5 days or whatever it was and shot himself. Doesn't make since.

Unbelievable. He had some good years with the Hawks. RIP, big man.

Damn. Police also say that he tried calling 911...
