MAC Basketball

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
22-4
#46 RPI
#27 Coaches Poll
#32 AP Poll

And they should get even more votes tomorrow...could even be ranked in the Coaches Poll.

If they finish 27-5 with a top 40 RPI, they absolutely have a shot. I'd prefer to just win in Cleveland and not have to sweat it though.

It would be logical that they would be in the discussion, but their RPI is going to fall throughout the reason of the season and should they lose to Ohio or Kent St (or somehow to anybody else) that is going to really do them in. Problem is their resume isn't impressive. They have only one good win OOC, and as a mid major you can't have your high quality win be against another mid major. And they also have two awful losses to Detroit and CC. Even the Creighton loss isn't looking too good as they struggle down the pike.

Had Ohio played a really good season, Akron may have had a chance. But since there isn't a strong #2 in the MAC, they are going to have to win it.

It would be really cool to see them ranked finally though, should be close as you said.

Detroit might win their conference and have a top 60 RPI. Coastal Carolina is their only "awful" loss. I do agree they lack a signature win and I hope they win the tournament and control their own destiny, but if they win out and lose in the final they'll at least be an at-large contender...it's been awhile since the MAC had one seriously in the discussion.

I would rather have Akron win out and OU win the tournament so they both could potentially get in. I grew up in Akron, but go to OU. It's a dream come true.

Zips ranked #24 in coaches poll. First time the program has been ranked in history.

28th in the AP.

Big win by Akron tonight in Athens.. if they don't have a let down game in Buffalo Saturday, they should be in the AP Top 25 next week

BG wins a game because Crawford didn't suck. If he didn't shoot well, we'd have got murdered.

I BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE WON! I BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE WON! YES... Go Zips! Being tied to the schools sports programs, this is very big for us. The buzz is amazing right now, lots of exciting things coming in the near future involving zips basketball.

Akron earned that one. They are a helluva lot tougher this year than last year.

I don't know what Christian has done to Ivo, but the kid's confidence is completely shot. Doesn't even look at the basket half the time. I really don't think Christian knows how to use him.

This whole Ohio team has just looked off the entire year. The coaching change really affected them more than their record lets on.

Hats off to Akron. Now we just need them to win out, lose to OU in the title game, and the MAC gets two NCAA bids.

Hats off to Akron. MAC game of the year, easily. No question about it. They are the definition of a team, with no real star. That's what makes them tough to beat. I'm a little worried in that Christian doesn't know how to coach these kids. The good thing is it's not his team, but he has the best PG OU has ever seen at his disposal. Seeya in Cleveland, we're still gunning for you.

It really is startling how Ivo has disappeared this season. Last year he was very good at drawing bigs out of the paint to create space for the guards to penetrate and if they didn't respect his shot he would make them pay.

Akron's chances of getting an at-large bid increased when Penn State beat Michigan...we jumped to #36 in the RPI with that happening

Be as objective as possible....can you imagine an at-large team getting a bid when their best W is another mid major?

Akron's resume is not really good..I want them to get in the tourney because they have a team that I think can def pull an upset or two off, but Dambrot has choked more than he has won in that MACC. This team gets down entirely way too much early in the game against bad teams. They could easily get beat by 40 points in the first round with how they play in the first half.

They will most likely have to beat Ohio again...that's no easy task. If they can't, I just cannot fathom how they get in as an at-large with that resume. I just don't see it and that's with me being a fan. Imagine the NCAA Selection Committee who has no idea who Akron is.

And there goes any hope of an at-large bid.

MACC or bust again for the Zips.

Someday Dambrot will get the message he needs to seriously upgrade his schedule. His teams always play to the level of the competition. Going to be a disaster if he chokes in the tourney again.

The Zips had the 52nd best (better than Kentucky, Ohio State, Indiana, UNC, Michigan, Syracuse, I could go on and on) OOC strength of schedule this season in all of the NCAA. There is only so much a mid-major can do in OOC. Getting big names to come to your place is very hard when you are a team that could upset them. The problem is that the Zips play in the shitty MAC.
