A few thoughts from last night's game...
- OU students showed both how clever and how classless they can be in span of ten minutes. The "Where is Abreu?" chant followed by the "He's in jail" response was good. I'm sure the Akron players and coaches picked up on it...the fans certainly did. Unfortunately, they lacked creativity and class when they chanted "Zeke's a bitch" multiple times when he was at the free throw line. There's just no room for that kind of garbage. I was embarrassed for them. Kudos to the Alron students for their response to the "Where is Abreu?" pregame chants, chanting "Where is Cooper?" in the final minutes of the game.
- I still cannot believe Cooper's disappearing act. Such a great player, especially in big games. I kept telling my friend next to me that he was going to start taking over...it just never happened. My respect for Cooper's game is so high that a 16 point lead still had me nervous...I know what he's capable of. Just a terrible night for DJ.
- OU's cold shooting night was shocking. 1 for 20 from 3PT range? I'd bet that's a school record (and not in a good way).
- I'll be curious to see OU next year with Cooper, Keely, Baltic, Offutt all gone. I'd imagine they'll take a step back.
- Kudos to Cooper for his congratulatory tweet to the Zips and to Ivo Blatic for coming out after he dressed to congratulate Keith Dambrot and the Zips players.
- Keith Dambrot's Coach of the Year award is incredibly well-deserved. So much adversity this year and yet here they were, back in Cleveland on Saturday, playing for the MAC Title for the 7th straight season.
- Zeke Marshall has had a helluva run at Akron. Great player, great kid...a wonderful representative for the University of Akron and the Zips basketball program. I hope he slips into the 2nd round.
- Demetrius Treadwell is an absolute beast. I feel bad for the MAC that they have to deal with him for two more years. There's NBA potential in his game.
- Hoping for a 12 seed, although we'll probably get a 13 or a 14.
- It feels damn good to be a Zip today
