Marques Bolden

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cook looks like he has way more upside than Bolden to me. He's more athletic and quicker, also seems to be relatively skilled for a big, looks like he can handle the ball a little and make good decisions. If he can develop a jumper, he could be useful, obviously he's a long shot but seems like a better bet if you're just looking for a guy to develop. Bolden is kind of one dimensional, upside is basically a backup center at best. I was rooting for him to make the team, was kind of bummed he was cut. But, then I looked at Cook and it made a lot of sense, he looks better.

To add to this, just as a positional need Cook makes alot more sense than Bolden. The Cavs already have 4 guys that are centers on the roster. Nance building up his skills to play PF is no where close to a given. Even if Nance transitions to be a PF and we keep Love, another PF is still needed for depth. It just makes sense to fill both two way contracts with guys to develop Into modern PFs. It much easier to take one of your PFs like Nance or maybe even Cook and play them at center if needed than trying to take someone like Bolden and try to play him at PF.

It's cook able to play the 3? Does Tweener mean he can or just that he is small?

I think he could play SF with the handles I have seen in highlights and he seems quick enough. He seems to have good dribble drive skills.

I think what will hold him back from playing either forward position is he complete lack of a 3 pt shot. I would look to see how Memphis uses Brandon Clarke and maybe try to use Cook in the same way. Cook doesn't have the shot block ability of Clarke but I think they both have a unique blend of size, speed, and explosiveness.

I also just saw Beilein also tried to recruit Cook out of high school so that might be a big reason why we picked him up.

Clarke is also a game changing defender something Cook is not. Best case for Cook is Al Farouq Aminu type if he ever gets any semblance of a shot. A good defender at SF or PF. But doesn't change the game at all.

If there is even the tiniest sliver of truth to this, Beilein is a bonehead who should have stayed in college ball and saved us the heartache.

He said the front office came to him. I dunno what they see in him.

is Cook at least good at defense?

No not really. He's just another guy. He's tall big and athetlic for a SF/PF but isn't actually good at anything other then having decent size and athetlic skills.

Beilein also did play against Iowa and Cook 6 times in the last 3 years so it isn't like he didn't scout him after high school.

Really there isn't many better options out there right now and I don't mind letting Beilein pick a guy he likes to give a 2 way contract to. It's not like the two way contract has produced more than a handful of actual NBA players in the two years it has been around.

I knew Clarke was a bad comparison when I wrote it. Clarke is a far superior player. My thinking was more of how Memphis will use Clarke on offense and possibly use him in a positionless defense.

Cook definitely needs to work on his 3 point shot. I could see us using Cook as a center if we need him to after we moving TT and Henson. He should have the size and speed to at least keep up and defend SFs, PFs, and Centers.

We might also never see Cook get his 40 days in the NBA but I think he is an interest prospect to give a two way contract to.

Back in March i was able to watch Cook from floor level in Columbus. He's very well built and his natural ability really catches your eye. He has some potential in the NBA but likely as a 4.

His production in G league has gone up recently

Last 3 games in the G league:
26 mins: 12pts, 10 rebs, 2ast, 5blks, 5-8shooting
26 mins: 17pts, 8rebs, 2ast, 4blks, 7-8 shooting
30 mins: 22pts, 11rebs, 1ast, 2blks, 7-12 shooting, 1-3 from three

ROSTER UPDATE: #Cavs sign Marques Bolden to 10-day contract.

I liked what i saw of him on the Summer League. Could be a option if we part ways with Henson or TT at the deadline. Don't forget about the Zizic injury too.

That may be the key to this. Bolden isn't great, but with the injury to Zizic we may be short big men if we do a deadline deal. This may just be insurance in case something happens.
