Mass Effect: Andromeda

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just beat Andromeda. Graphics aside, the game was overall very good except for the storyline, which I found to be the weakest in the ME games by a mile. For journeying to a brand new galaxy, the game felt really familiar and the alien races didn't seem all that different from the ones we already have. Characters were ok, but the dialogue could be pretty brutal.

Combat was the best of the series by far, I never got tired of the battle system.

So I think the story is going to end up being really good, but that was just waaay too many loose ends for my taste. Even thought it's obvious the first with sequels coming, I just felt like they answered zero questions at the end.

I forgot where I read this, but someone made this really good point: there have been some amazing open world games in the last few years (Witcher 3, Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc) that all give you a sense of discovery far greater than anything in MEA, a game built around it. Kinda felt to me that they just tried to recreate the Reapers/Husks/Geth while only changing a few small things around.

So...the graphics and story was not good...what was that actually matters? lol

Combat was really enjoyable, easily the best of the series. And I'm a big ME fan, so just being back in that universe kept me entertained.

I thought the individual planets were extremely well done. Better than the other ME games, and I actively sought out every single Remnant vault. Exploring those things was my favorite part of the game, you were playing a sorta hybrid platformer at that point.

Done.

My take:

A. The Jaardan were clearly wiped by the reapers and used the scourge as a weapon to try and save themselves. It didn't work, and now there is no trace of them throughout Andromeda.

B. The benefactor is..... the illusive man? This one has me stumped. You'd assume they likely came along for the ride. Who would have that kind of money/resources to invest?

Overall fun game. Worth the time I put into it. Still not as good as ME1/2 to me, but a lot of potential moving forward.

Heard yesterday they are putting the franchise on ice for a few years due to all the problems and negativity

No I saw this. They're working on some other projects so they're pumping the breaks with ME:A... which was to be expected. These games always have large gaps between releases. They usually take their time, which is why they're so good.
