Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Matthew Dellavedova (training camp invite)

On the bright side, his shaky play during Summer League, along with his much better college play, probably gave the Cavs a better shot at retaining him.

The Cavs already had him under contract before summer league started, so I don't think we even have that takeaway.

Re: Matthew Dellavedova (training camp invite)

I expect none of it to have a guarantee, but as an undrafted rookie that is to be expected.

Re: Matthew Dellavedova (training camp invite)

I'm not sure what you are looking at. That page seems to indicate that he'll be a free agent in 2015. That's a 2 year deal. It also says it was signed on August 7th.

Ah yep. Right you are

The info I got was that a significant chunk of the first season is guaranteed. My wild guess is that something in the $100k to $250k range was guaranteed.

Re: Matthew Dellavedova (training camp invite)

I have never felt stronger about a player as I do Dellavedova...he is awful, we can do better

Dellavedova is not an nba level player

Can't create any separation from summer league let alone nba guards
doesn't get to the free throw line (not even once in summer league)
doesn't score efficiently (27% fg, 20% 3pt in summer league)
is a major liability defensively
3.0 apg to 2.7 to's in summer league

Re: Matthew Dellavedova (training camp invite)

I really think we should have gone after Roddy Beaubois, but I guess he's not a terrible consolation prize

Re: Matthew Dellavedova (training camp invite)

I think the roster is fine as is and unless someone is a quantifiable upgrade or fits a need the cavs are better off using the spots and training camp for D league purposes.

You may have the stats, but how many games of Summer League did you watch ? There is no doubt that the team played better with him on the court and he was the only player that was not selfish. His defense was sound and he ran the offense. He tears apart opposition while playing for Australia, and is more popular in Oz than Patty Mills. The guy will definitely be in the NBA and I think it is great that the Cavs have him. Just watch your supporter base grow, Australia is the biggest subscriber to NBA TV outside the US. I suggest watching him closely in the next practice games - seriously just watch Delly and what he does, then I would be interested in hearing your opinion.

Re: Matthew Dellavedova (training camp invite)

Let's say Dellavedova doesn't play well in the handful of minutes he plays this season. The Cavaliers have multiple first and second round picks next draft. When we are talking about a third point guard and last guy on the roster, flexibility us more valuable than a veteran with guaranteed years.

If you really think Dellavedova's defense is sound, i don't know what to say to you

Your first mistake was thinking that people have asked you to assess Dellavedova. You simply haven't watched him play very much. His quickness will be an issue on both sides of the ball and that is why he wasn't drafted.

Outside of footspeed, he has shown in his career the polish to have a long career as a fringe NBA/ solid Euroleague point guard. That is why Grant wanted him with limited guarantees... without consulting you on the matter.

@Randolph Keys

This entire forum is unsolicited opinions on other's decisions, odd response, especially when you agree with my assessment that he is a defensive liability
