The things I hate, though.

Floyd is a boring 50-0. I legitimately do not think he's as good as advertised, and that he built a career on blocking and dodging punches.

I also fundamentally believe that if someone used the angles that Connor did and actually knew how to throw a boxing punch, they'd have shortened his career. His angles and his game plan prior to being gassed was absolutely phenomenal. Never saw someone just tap Floyds face so effortlessly. Just no power because he can't throw a boxing punch.

Sad for boxing though. Outside of GGG, any stars? Not really.
He looked ridiculous with the gloves on. Those were only punches according to the literal definition

Yep! That's a very good point...

I think it was the game plan if things went bad. I thought 1-4 were worst case scenario from Floyd's POV and IIRC, that's when he started to really get him to clinch the back.

I also, personally, think Byrd did a horrendous job reffing. A looooooot of the breaks put Connor in really bad spots. Floyd rakes out of breaks.

I don't think Floyd will fight again, but another 250M dollar payday to rematch a guy who basically can't hurt you, much less beat you has to be somewhat appealing.

I know 50-0 is a nice round number, but another 250M in the bank certainly isn't something to scoff at either.

That's a pretty important skill for a boxer

I understand.

There's a drastic difference on that gif, and what Floyd does. Ali wasn't out here hugging his way through bad rounds to score 10/9's on dodging punches.

He did.

Like I said, and it was a glaring issue, he couldn't throw a boxing punch.

let's get Floyd in an MMA fight so Connor can return the favor in less than 30 seconds.

I know it won't happen so noone get their panties in a bunch.

I mean.. I feel it, but, it takes a long time to learn to grapple; and Mayweather is 40...

If he were ten years younger, then maybe.. and even then, can MMA come up with a $250M payday to entice a guy like that to switch sports?

I dunno... I just think the idea of Mayweather in the octagon only makes sense if these sports were more similar and didn't each require years upon years of training.

I'd settle for a mix of punching styles. No take downs, no kicks, no clinches.

Floyd picks glove weight, all thrown punches in MMA are legal, aka hammer fists.

Would have made it infinitely more interesting.

I'm so proud of McGregor. Boxing "expert" Max Kellerman said before this fight that Connor wouldn't land a single punch. I think you could make a case for Connor winning 5 rounds in this fight.

I've seen a couple post here saying that it would be a different story if a fighter had more stamina then McGregor who could throw punches from different angles like Connor. The problem with that is the fighting style that McGregor has makes it harder to conserve energy.

Collectively, everyone here is surprised by how well he did, right?

Stunning upper cut in round one that legit would have KO'd some middle tier fighters.

Definitely surprised... He did well, there's no doubt about that.

Absolutely. He did much better than I expected. Just got gassed. Was a legitimately good fight; happy I went out for it.

In retrospect, McGregor should have had his manager distract the ref and then kicked Mayweather in the nuts. For a guy who models himself after wrestlers, he could stand to learn a thing or two from them. :chuckle:
