"Word on the Street: Workouts, Trade Rumors Heat Up

Note Corrections Made:

-There are a number of teams looking to move down or out of this draft if the right trade offer comes along. One of them is Memphis, who is having serious problems scheduling some of the top players expected to compete for the fifth overall pick. Besides Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose, who will not work out for obvious reasons, Jerryd Bayless has told the Grizzlies he is not interested in playing for them, while Brook Lopez and O.J. Mayo are still in a holding pattern waiting to see how things play out. Eric Gordon is expected to come to Memphis to work out eventually. Memphis might thus decide to save some money and slide down a few slots, while possibly unloading a contract (such as Brian Cardinal) in the process. The Sixers could come into play here too.

Would they do this?

#5 and Cardinal
for
#19, 2009 2nd and Snow

Memphis has taken so much heat for dropping Pau off on the Lakers doorstep and getting back in the car and speeding off, I just don't see how they make another boneheaded deal without getting anything decent in return...

LMFAO thats hilarious. Its funny to laugh at this because this was us a few years ago when no one would work out for us.

So? we're getting rid of nothing and getting the #5 pick.. who ever we get will be a lot better than the one we get at #19

Why would they take "nothing" for the #5 pick? Just because they can't get anything doesn't mean other teams can't at #5. If they put that pick up for sale they will get a lot more than our #19, one of the last picks in next year's draft, and Eric Snow.

From everything that I've heard and read, they really like Kevin Love and will take him if he is there, so.....

And where exactly did you hear this?

He worked out for them at least Link

Absolutely, absolutely," he said of prospect of playing for the Memphis Grizzlies. "I feel like Memphis is a great spot and hey, I'm into Elvis too."

Let's see...Love is ranked about a Top 5 prospect or so...they have the 5th pick...he's worked out for them..plays PF..they dealt their PF last year..

He's also headed to the Grizzlies in nbadraft.net's mock as well as Draft Express...and by this time the mocks are as accurate as you're going to get. They make their mocks knowing who's worked out for who, which team is interested in which player or what positions.

They didn't throw a Grizzlies dart at the board of prospects and come up with it.

I understand all that, but you have a tendency to write things as stated facts. Just cause the stars are aligning for them, does not mean that they WILL TAKE HIM.

I never once wrote that the Grizzlies are for sure taking Kevin Love. I just took my basketball knowledge and paired them together, and apparently I'm not the only one that sees a fit between both parties.

The Grizzlies have been re-buffed before on draft night when Steve Francis refused to go there, so they aren't going to take a player who wants no part of the franchise [Rose/Beasley/Bayless]. That knocks 3 top players out...it's no coincidence they could use a big man. It's not like Darko is going to suddenly morph into Tim Duncan. All they got back in the Gasol trade player wise was Javaris Crittenton a Point Guard and the rights to Marc Gasol...and who knows when he'll come over.

Do a quick analysis of the players on the Grizzlies logging major minutes.

PG - Mike Conley Jr/Lowry/Crittenton [So that pretty much cancels out them reaching for a DJ Augustin or a Russell Westbrook]
SG - Mike Miller [Could definitely be dealt, but everyone thought this on the deadline as well and he wasn't.]
SF - Rudy Gay [Pretty much the face of their franchise...]
PF - Darko?
C - ???

They have a ton of PG's and other wingmen on this team. I know trades can change a lot of that, but I'm saying as of right now if they have this roster going into the draft and are picking at #5 Kevin Love is a very very good possibility.

I don't know why you're questioning this logic, I'm not reaching, nor am I stating it's fact that he's going there..I'm simply saying they're a good match...off the court in terms of wanting to go there and on the court because they're lacking talent in their front court.

Read the bold. It comes off as a done deal.

Hey, no hate from my end. I just wanted to know if it is a sure thing as it sounds.

you didn't bold "from everything I've read and heard". that's what directly preceeded what you bolded and makes it obvious it's his deducement, not something he's stating as a fact.

Regardless, the notion that a 19, snow, and a 2nd would get this done, is farfetched. We're competing against other teams who would outdue that offer in a second.

Apparently they offered Miller and Lowry for the #2 pick from Miami. I am still trying to verify this.
