Memphis having problems with #5 Pick

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm willing to up my offer:

#5 and Cardinal
for
#19, Both seconds next year, (Pavs or Snow)

The only problem with dealing for the #5 is who do we draft?

In a dream scenario we either have OJ Mayo who was once thought to be available even at #6 is now pegged to the Timberwolves. I doubt the Sonics would pass on him either..

What if the draft goes...

Rose..Beasley..Mayo..Bayless...?

There isn't anyone up there after those guys that I'd spend the #5 pick on...I don't think Eric Gordon will translate well to the NBA, Kevin Love scares the hell out of me...

Anthony Randolph is intriguing, but not so much at pick #5. He's a lefty with a variety of scoring options on offense. He's a crafty player that finds ways to get the ball in the bucket. He's a great ball handler, especially considering he's almost 7' tall. A lot of highlights show him running the break and weaving through players.

His only real knock is that he tends to disappear and has a very quiet, shy demeanor which in turn means two things. He could be one of those savvy cerebral players that don't say a whole lot but lets his play do the talking, or one of those guys that can be easily mentally rattled and gets caught in slumps. He's very lanky as well, he needs to put on some serious weight regardless of whether he plays SF or PF in which I expect he sees time at both. I think he's going to be a lot like a Lamar Odom in the NBA.

He's built a lot like Kevin Durant/Brandan Wright. I think he'd be a nice player to look at, especially if he's there at #13 and we could somehow get the Blazers to move down. Any thoughts on Randolph?

Yep, yep, yep... Going up to #5, giving up what would probably be a lot and not likely getting your guy is a big risk to take...

And you bring up the question that scares the heck out of me if we move up that far: who do you take if Mayo isn't there (which is likely)?

I think Love will be a good player... I really do.. He tested out athletically right along the lines of how Dwight Howard did (vertical, agility, speed) and still is around 13% body fat... His arms are short, which worries me, but his explosiveness and athleticism might make up for it... Will he be a star? I don't think so, but I think he'll be a very good player for awhile... Plus, I think the Grizzlies stay at #5 where they are rumored to have fallen for Love (pun intended)...

Eric Gordon? He doesn't fit here, IMHO... He's a guy who needs to be a Piston type team that will run him off screens and hide him defensively... Not a team that will want him to create his own shot, create for others, play good defense and put him out on the perimeter 1-on-1... Plus I'm not so hot about his shooting %'s in college...

Robin Lopez? He has showed some nice potential and did well in college, but his athleticism might hurt him in the NBA with the centers in the NBA turning to more European style guys who can face the basket, play on the perimeter and take you off the dribble... I could see him as the best potential pick, but I'm not too sure I'd want him on this team... I mean c'mon, the guys hero is Walt Disney... :chuckles:

Russel Westbrook, Joe Alexander, DJ Augustin, and Danillo Galinari are all not worth moving up for, let along the #5 pick...

Donte Greene, Darrell Arthur, JaVale McGee, DeAndre Jordan, Marreese Speights? All reaches at #5...

Randolph is intriguing, but not so much at pick #5.

Agreed... Plus I'm not sold on him at all...

I don't think he's athletic, fast and long as people seem to hype him up to be.. Is he all of those things? Most definitely, but the numbers don't suggest he is the athletic freak that people suggest he is...

My other problem is that his shooting %'s were atrocious... Terrible.

On top of that, what position does he play? I think he's best fit in a high-tempo offense where he can play a Shawn Marion type of role, rather than be a guy who is a PF in the half-court...

He is very young and has the potential to develop into something, but I think he has a very high bust potential and I'm not too comfortable with him as a player...

Honestly, I really don't see a guy that is worth trading up for other than Bayless, Rose, Mayo, Beasley and maybe, maybe Lopez, Batum or Speights... Other than that, I just don't see the reason...

WOW !!!! :shifty:

Comparing Dwight Howard's athleticism with Kevin Love's is like comparing what would make a bigger splash: a brick or a twinkie ??

I'd venture to say someone very close to Mr. Love is writing up those ridiculous reports...

I'm a fan of Kevin Love, and would without a doubt move up to get him.. But my goodness...

I never said he was close to D12 athletically, I'm just saying the measurements were similar to Dwight's and that Love's athleticism is underrated.. That's all. Just trying to make a point...

No Step Vert:

Love: 29.5
Howard: 30.5

Max Vert:

Love: 35
Howard: 35.5

Lane Agility:

Love: 11.17
Howard: 11.21

3/4 Court Sprint:

Love: 3.22
Howard: 3.14

And this is the Love with 12.9% body fat...

Smooth-

You and I both know Love does not compare favorably to Dwight Howard...

Who are we kidding ?? :chuckles:

But if I said Stryker compares athletically to MJ, you would agree?

Some things just go without saying...;)
