Minor League Week 16 Games Thread

Interesting that, unless I’m mistaken, Battenfield is nowhere to be found in this year’s Baseball America prospect book.

He isnt in there.. Not in the top 41 or even the depth chart of Tampa's system.
I also checked a few other places (BP Futures Guide, MILB Analyst)... Nothing.

I will check a couple of the older books I still have around here.. Maybe something will turn up..

Still nothing located. I was checking books back to 2018 just to be safe.
I even rechecked for the Houston system as that was who drafted & signed him (before a trade to Tampa). Still nothing..

Fangraphs in January had Battenfield as the Rays 48th prospect as a reliever, but in his write up noted that he was a candidate to break out, because of his plus cutter and increased velo in instructional.

When analyzing the Luplow trade, they noted that he had broken out...as a starter.

The more I research and learn the more inclined I am to take prospect rankings with a grain of salt. Like was stated earlier, they're convenient for us fans, but have little actual value to the folks making deals.

I'm sure Battenfield's recent surge in performance as a SP caught the eye of many, but so should have Pilkington's.

I've got to say that upon looking back at the deadline deals, I'm very pleased with the outcome for us Cleveland fans. Even if Battenfield and Pilkington fail to become the SP we think possible, getting them and Straw for what was given up is pretty damn good IMO.
