Ok, its time for another week of games to begin. The CLE affiliates have had consecutive losing weeks (wk 4 at 5-18 & wk 5 at 10-13) and need to get back to the winning ways of the 1st 3 weeks of the season. Here are the match-ups for this week

AAA: Columbus (10-19) at Iowa (10-18, ChiCubs affiliate)
AA: Akron (18-10) at Altoona (18-11, Pittsburgh affiliate)
High A: Lake County (15-15) at Fort Wayne (13-16, San Diego affiliate)
Low A: Lynchburg (16-13) hosts Delmarva (20-9, Baltimore affiliate)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have started tracking the various position played by different CLE prospects this season. The table here reflects only games played during 2021 in the minors.
This is thru the games completed on 6/7/21.

Great stuff; thanks for posting. Is anyone else struck by how nearly all of the MIF prospects have played 3 infield positions? Not sure whether to interpret this as the FO is unsure whether they’ll stick at a particular position or if it is deliberate to maximize future positional flexibility? I guess we’ll know in time.

In my opinion, having guys play 3 or 4 positions seems to result in them not being particularly comfortable (or good) at any of them.

With this organization it is the opposite, they want them to be able to play a bunch of positions so they have a better chance of not being stuck behind someone essentially. Also it's not uncommon to draft a SS and change them off of SS. Usually the best position players on the team are at SS, CF in high school, and then get moved elsewhere as competition heats up... Not always true, but often times it is. (I know my brother wasn't happy they switched him to CF from SS, but on paper it made sense cause he a state sprinter lol)

Honestly I think you are underestimating how often players change positions in the minors. I remember Kipnis was an OF, Gomes got moved around (1B, 3B, LF) outside of catcher since he was like 4th on the AAA depth chart for catcher for the Blue Jays. He was actually a legit defensive 3B by the numbers. He wouldnt have been a catcher if he stayed in the Blue Jays organization. So you have to factor in how well they play defense at a position and who is infront of them on the depth chart as well.

I disagree, respectfully so. We’ve got a ton of guys playing multiple positions and we’re having horrendous defense to show for it. Geez, they had Tyler Freeman in the outfield the other day! Does anyone think he should be an outfielder?

Freeman is a SS by trade, but he doesn't have the ability at SS that Gimenez or Arias has defensively... So they need to find another position for him since he has a good bat... If he can play a solid OF defense and hit well then that's all that matters right? We also don't have the OF in the long term exactly figured out and we have a million who can play 2B, so seeing who is solid in the OF, isn't a bad idea... I am not sure why moving guys around is a bad thing. I mean JRam was a 2B, who became a SS, then utility then 3B...

Tyler Freeman’s bat plays out best at secondbase not outfield unless he is the second coming of Dave Gallagher

@Martyinnewyork
Are you sure?? Ty Freeman in the OF is news to me. I was disappointed he didn't play the 2nd game of the Friday DH when I was there, but I havent seen/ hear of him in the OF yet. Baseball Reference had not record of it either (so not listed in the table above)..

Sorry, I thought I’d seen a lineup with him in LF. Possibly in a game that got rained out? Or possibly a “senior moment” on my part! Lol!

I think you are thinking of Richard Palacios who have been splitting time between 2nd base and the OF.
