Minor League Week 9 Games Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There actually is a rule 4 draft (the first-year player draft), but rules 1-3 have nothing to do with drafting.

That still doesnt answer the questions about Mambo s #1-4, I think you are hiding something by switching the subject to baseball in this thread about baseball.

I’m definitely adding Luplow to this list……..And Cam Hill is not totally safe…..

I was only mentioning guys currently taking up a 40-man spot. Since Cam Hill is on the 60 day, he isn't. I agree that he'll likely be gone after this year.

There's no chance Luplow gets DFA though, which is what I believe could easily happen to every guy on that list that isn't already a potential FA this off-season.

Tena and Lavistida are thriving at Lake County while Bracho and Rocchio seem to be struggling.

Catching prospects need some promotion. Not sure what to do as Naylor doesn't. But you could easily move Lavistida up to Akron and Diaz up to Lake County, setting aside the Naylor issue. Maybe between DH and Catcher they could find enough time for both in Akron.

When it comes to catchers, development is generally focused on defense, esp in this org. Hitting is secondary. A catcher can't develop defensively when DHing.

That being stated, guys still need ABs... Catchers normally go 3-4 days then a break, so the other days DHing/At other positions, I am okay with.. Lavastida can hit and can also play other positions outside of catcher, so it's possible to have him C, 1B/3B so guys can still get ABs time behind the plate etc.. I also always like having a legit hitting guy be able to play other positions since if catching doesn't work they have backup options...

Sandy Alomar was a strong offensive catcher in the Padres system when the Indians came calling.. the Padres had a strong hitting background in the padres minor league organization.. Sandy learned most of his craft, defensively in cleveland..

Yan Gomes.. came from the hitting focused Jays organization.. and became a pretty good defensive backstop while with the Tribe..

Perhaps there is another capable offensive backstop that the Indians can develop as a defensive minded hitter?.. That they can get in trade? The mention of Moreno is because this is the kind of target the Tribe needs in their minor league system.. Trades for catchers seem to work well for the Tribe.. Thoughts?

I haven't looked to see who we could even look at... I am not against trading for a catcher at all if anything I kept trying to at least get one thats more MLB ready... Let me look later to see who could be available for like a Mercado type of trade...

The draft is in less than four weeks as well.. this particular draft has some interesting catching prospects.. at least six that could be of interest.. not all in the top 10 picks..

This (the catching depth within the Indians system inclusive of the parent club) is perhaps the shallowest part of the organization.. during this transition season.. this is the time to look at addressing the need..

Perhaps this is where Dicky can find a match for Eddie / Cesar.. IDK..

Saturday night game updates/ finals:

AAA Columbus loses 4-2
AA Akron wins 5-3
High A Lake County sweeps its doubleheader, winning gm 1 by 2-1 score in 8 innings & gm 2 by score of 5-0.

As an interesting side note: Lake County had a perfect game tossed against them in gm 1 for 7 innings. Hunter Gaddis nearly matched it allowing only 4 base-runners in the gm (1 hit, 1 bb, 1 hbp & 1 guy reached via error). It was a wild 8th for both sides that produced all runs for both teams.

Low A Lynchburg won 3-2

On the night CLE affiliate went 4-1 with a run diff of +7.

For the week CLE affiliates are now 10-10 with a run diff of -14.

Other interesting notes:
  • It appears Adam Scott struggled a bit in his rehab appearance...
  • The ACL box scores are not showing pitch counts & strikes thrown,,..
