MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL vs Ravens

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Stefanski brought Woods in.

The only teams with more players on the IR are currently tanking. The defensive backs have a top five pick, two second rounders, and a third rounder all on the injured list.

I just can't get behind blaming the coaching staff. The scheme on both sides has been a contender.
Would love to be wrong about Woods so that this “young” staff can grow together. I can’t speak intelligently as to scheme and whether Woods is maximizing the cards he holds… It’s more observation mixed in with some confirmation bias, I’m sure. Which is not the best way to go about analyzing this!

And I saw a graphic last night that no Browns starter is 30 years old or more? Theoretically would mean there is improvement to be made.

Malcolm Smith technically doesn't start, but he has played more than 50% of the snaps since week one.

The Browns started the year with four starting level cornerbacks, now they let MJ Stewart play more than half the available snaps.

Unbelievable.

I thought it was pertaining to the offense but I could be mistaken.

Its A weird mindset to me.

The media and fans seem happier about a loss like this as opposed to a win like Houston.

Brown's media should be laying the heat to the DC.

But more than that, the team has the talent to win today. Berry should be facing real heat for why he didnt upgrade the defense at the deadline. If they make a Minkah Fitzpatrick type of move the Steelers made last year, suddenly a Superbowl run feels real.

But instead, everyone is sorta satisfied with a high scoring loss to the Ravens?

Yea I find it odd. The team is way more than Baker. The analysis and critique from the local media shouldn't begin and end with how he's playing.

Treat it as a psychological experiment or case study into the mind of a tortured, battered fan.

Regardless of how you think we should feel, this is how the majority of the fanbase (and local media) feels.

We're only a couple years removed from 1-31 and we're less than a year removed from the Freddie debacle that exposed the false hope we had mustered. Since then we've witnessed real, tangible, amazing progress on a week to week basis that builds confidence that we're creating something sustainable. Our entire starting secondary is in street clothes and the defensive unit wasn't a particularly strong group to begin with (outside of the DL). Andrew Berry has been here less than a year and has done more in that time than all the rest of the GMs since 1999 combined by fixing the OL immediately and helping to create a shared vision and culture.

You're perplexed as to why the fans and media aren't irrationally crucifying the Browns for losing a close game to a division rival...I'm proud of the fans and media for applying a little bit of context and rationality to understand where we are and be grateful and optimistic looking forward.

*shrug*

Thank you. I have no idea what that dude said and I don’t care.

Once Lamar came in, which by the way was an awesome TV moment, you knew they were done. As a football fan, last night we saw something special by a special player. No shame in losing to an all timer. It really did feel as inevitable and helpless as when Jordan had the ball at the end of the game.

Like I said, we disagree there. I think that Lamar is overrated, and I think the league is pushing him as a superstar. I wonder if the narrative last night was fabricated, and I think his job is made easier by the guys in black and white stripes. He was also facing an incompetent DC. Teams really should be better at forcing him to pass and crushing him.

I'll go one more... that wasn't even one of the top five bathroom breaks in recent sports history.

Manny Ramirez took a dump behind the Green Monster at Fenway during a pitching mound visit from the coach.

Kansas forward and future NBA bench warmer did his business into towels on the court - in front of the crowd - because he didn't have time to go in the locker room.

Paul Pierce shit his pants and faked a serious injury during a playoff game.

Chargers kicker Nick Novak once pissed in a cup on television because he knew he would be kicking a last second field goal at any moment.

Moises Alou talked about pissing on his hands to make them tougher.

A running back's dump will never earn such immortality.

That’s the most comprehensive catalog of in-game bowel-movements I’ve ever seen. Is it from the Elias Sports and Bodily Function Bureau?

I briefly did some research for a possible RBF article, then I came to my senses and realized it's just too much toilet and not enough ball.

Woods is not going to get smarter with age. He is constantly caught off guard, like he is the last guy to suspect the obvious. SURE we need better players, but we need a better coordinator, too. If Stefanski’s esteem is growing around the league, his choice of assistants should ALSO be growing. He shouldn’t have to settle for amateurs like Joe Woods anymore.

Joe Woods was literally the defensive coordinator for the 6th ranked defense according to DVOA just two years ago.

But sure man.

Right. So why does he always look like he is guessing wrong this year?

You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

Woods' best players (Garrett, Ward, Harrison, Vernon) have all missed multiple games each. Two other projected starters in camp (Greedy, Delpit) have each missed the entire season.

You have Andrew Sendejo who has been forced into playing 97% of the snaps and not surprisingly it's WAY more than he's capable of playing at this point in the late stages of his career. He's been horrible, but who else can Woods stick out there? Joseph and Redwine have been just as bad.

Anyone with two eyes could see this was going to be one of the worst linebacker groups in the league before the season started and not surprisingly it has been exactly that. Mack Wilson and Jacob Phillips are both absolutely terrible. Takitaki is good against the run, but can't cover anyone which means he's barely on the field. Goodson is solidly average.

Malcolm Smith has been surprisingly solid, but like Sendejo he's an older guy and the more you play him, the less effective he is.

On any given snap this past Monday, Woods was working with below average to downright bad players at like 7 of the 11 spots on the field.

The Browns need to (and almost assuredly will) aggressively address the defense both in free agency and the draft. If they do that and Woods still can’t get them to play well, then we can talk about moving on from him.

So he’s guessing wrong with bad players?
