Monken Business: Browns Head Coach 2026

The only retread I’m willing to deal with is McDaniels (or Gannon if he gets scapegoated).

If there is one man who can remind DW what he's got deep inside.....maybe its this tough lovin SOB.

Doug Pederson
Mike McCarthy
Matt Nagy

If we're going with retreads then these guys would check a lot of boxes.

Josh McDaniels and Jonathan Gannon?????????? Ok, I'm closing my laptop for the day.

Are they planning to hire a real coach, or are they planning to hire a patsy?

My initial sense is, unfortunately, is they're looking for a patsy.

I strongly suspect they will hire someone with no previous head coaching experience (which in and of itself is not a big deal) who will also be completely willing to do whatever they tell them to do in terms of who plays quarterback and how they fill out rest of the coaching staff.

I hope I am wrong on that of course, but that's my first reaction.

Why do you believe they want a patsy?

I think I'd be okay with any of the following:

1 - LaFleur or Harbaugh if either Packers or Ravens are dumb enough to move on from them.
2 - Young DC (Minter or Shula) taking their first HC gig, with an experienced OC like Mike McDaniel.
3 - Klint Kubiak or another young OC, with an experienced DC (Jim Schwartz?)

What I don't want is an old retread (McCarthy, Flores) or a college coach (Signetti, Freeman).

I'm just speculating, but I feel like the Browns may insist the next head coach has to retain multiple coaches from the current staff among other things.

I also think there's a possibility that they tell the next coach "this is the QB room whether you like it or not" - and the only way they're going to get a coach to agree to that is if the candidate is just happy to be getting a head coaching job in the first place.

But we'll see. I would very much like to be incorrect on that front.
